Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

The local district mainly serves students and their families of color.. 90% of students are Black, Latino, Native American, or Asian

2. Summary of Our Project

Without question, this generation truly is the media generation, devoting more than a quarter of each day to media. As media devices become increasingly portable, and as they spread even further through young people’s environments— from their schools to their homes —media messages will have a wall-to-wall presence in an already media-saturated world.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:21-50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The obstacles we faced completing this project is trying to coordinate schedules of all those participating. We overcame this problem by creating schedules that we all shared.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Student participation in local activities is easiest for our teachers or students in need. We want to experience expanding our knowledge and reach globally in a collaborative way!

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We practiced classroom management curriculum guidelines using primary rules to get started. We supported new educational standards because we know that our students are engaged by real-world learning, creative thinking, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We used our Librarian, Destiny, Google Scholar, Adobe Express, Videos, books, oral interviews, all of our classroom computers, and ChatGPT. These tools helped us to capture and transfer information more readily and with fluency.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Students contacted and talked to people using scripts and prerecorded videos'. We were able to reach the managing Branch Manage for United Bank who stopped by to visit. We also received volunteer requests from the Micah Virginia Organization that provides opportunities for collaboration and community sharing.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

My involvement has strengthened the relationship between myself and other librarians within the district and our administration. We new working relationships with the community who now wish to volunteer their time to support our projects.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Our helpers were a science teacher, banker, PTA President and parents. Most came from culturally diverse backgrounds. We learned how to break language barriers.
