2. Summary of Our Project

The National Monument, or 'Monas', as it is popularly called, is one of the monuments built during the First Indonesian President Soekarno era of fierce nationalism. Monas is famous among Indonesian people as the highest historic building in Jakarta. It was established to commemorate Indonesia's struggle for independence from the Dutch colonialism. Since it was opened to the public, this National Monument has become one of the popular tourist destinations in Indonesia. Monas is a tower with a height of 132 meters. The building has as its special characteristic the flame shape, covered with gold foil, that you can see on the top of the tower. If visitors go down to the base of the tower, they will see a museum measuring 80 x 80 meters. Ruang Kemerdekaan (Independence Room) is in the cup part of Monas. Actually, it is an amphitheater within this building. Visitors can also use the elevator to access the top platform and the Flame of Independence. Monas is open to public every day. You can visit to remember the struggle of Indonesian heroes against colonialism and learn about Indonesian history. You will see many kinds of historical buildings and other unique inheritance. By visiting historical buildings, we will keep this nation secure as one of the great nations of the world.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The problem that we need to overcome during making this project is selecting the best topic category of eight categories and finding the clear information about our topic. Beside that, we also have problem with time management.

Our school has equipment such as proper computers and internet connection. We didn't get used to using the mouse, since the mouse has a different way to work. But it is solved by regularly practicing.

At the beginning of doing this project, we had problems opening the website, because of the internet distribution problem. But after school managed the distribution well, we solved the problem.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

This project improves our knowledge about the historical landmarks. The National Monument Park has become a popular recreational area for Jakarta residents. It is also a convenient spot to run, jog and exercise while visiting Jakarta. By visiting the historical landmark it connects us to the past, helping us realize we aren’t alone with our situations. Throughout time immemorial, people have grappled with the same issues.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

This activities and research are collaborative learning related to our Social Study, Computer lesson, and Digital Technology interest group. Our school uses a National curriculum integrates with an Entrepreneurship curriculum. In the Entrepreneurship curriculum, we learn how we care and conserve about historical landmarks in Jakarta, Indonesian's by building the website and publish our project using internet. Because if we use internet there will be more people who see and read rather than we write it in a book or poster which has limited access. By creating this website, people will know about one of our historical landmarks in Jakarta. So, the young generation starts to appreciate cultures, ideas, and traditions and to recognize them as meaningful landmarks of specific times and places. History helps us understand how events in the past made things the way they are today. With lessons from the past, we not only learn about ourselves and how we came to be, but also develop the ability to avoid mistakes and create better paths for our societies.
