Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Our school, 'Fu Cheng High School' is located in Wu Chia, Kaohsiung City, adjacent to Cianjhen Riverside Park, and next to MRT Station Exit 2(R5). Due to the fast transportation, it’s so convenient for students to school in a 3-minute walk. Just for the reason, our school set up a “Studying Trail” to let students and people take the MRT to school more convenient and safer. And there are many restaurants, clothing stores, hotels, and night market nearby. Food, clothing, housing, and traffic, especially the world-famous fast food restaurant, KFC, which is across from our school, are so easy to acquire that the population is increasing so fast. We can say Wu Chia is the emerging area in Kaohsiung.

2. Summary of Our Project

The contents in our website are about the events in Kaosiung, such as the National Day firework, New Year's Eve fireworks, Anime Convention, and Taiwan Lantern Festival.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

The computers in our school run fast. But the Internet here is usually slow. The router can't hold when too many devices connect to one Network.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

We did the first try to create these web pages, so we got a lot of problems in the program, such as how to copy pictures, videos, transfer the files, and the authorization for videos on the website. Fortunately, all these issues were to be assisted through the teachers’ help.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We participate in Cyberfair every year since 2013. Cyberfair is a good competition for us to practice writing English articles and learning how to design a website. Through this way, we can let more people around the world know more about Kaohsiung. These are the meanings of participating in Cyberfair to us and our school.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The new skills that we learned this time include writing articles in English, designing a website, taking pictures, interviewing people, and collecting information. We benefit a lot from collecting information, it makes us to know the history of Kaohsiung that the textbook does not include. I have to say, letting students use the Internet for teaching and learning is more effective than traditional methods. In this way, everyone can learn more knowledge while surfing the Internet.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

The tools that we used are following: The computers help us to collect information, and the cellphones allow us to take some pictures.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

The only way we use is taking pictures with the people who we interviewed.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Through our website, people will know more about the events in Kaohsiung, so that they will be in interest to visit Kaohsiung.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We didn't ask for any advice from anyone, we did this with ourselves. We work and think together.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

The resolution of some pictures that we uploaded to the website goes low. We thought it might be a problem with the website.
