In our project, we are protecting our environment from invasion by those alien species. They are not native to our community and cause habitat damage to our native species. In this project, students have done research on apple snails and they will share their experiments and solutions to solve the problem caused by apple snails.

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:2-3

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Students are going to solve invasive alien species problem in our community. However, the problem we face is that invasive alien species is originally a very serious problem and difficult to solve. We try to find methods which is combined with technology and creativity skills to design a device trying it out to solve the problem.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Wildlife, Our Life. We need to find ways to protect our native species.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We have use Cyber Academy platform to work on the project and interact with students from Ukraine, Germany, the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand. From their works, we better understand the content related to invasive alien species.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

When students are working on this project, they have interacted with students from Ukraine, Germany, India, the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand. They have taken the measures taken by other countries to solve the invasive alien species problem to solve this problem in our community. They also share with them what we can do in Taiwan acting as ambassadors to demonstrate the efforts we have made.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Since we have done this project, we have shared our project results in a technology fair in Taichung and it aroused students from other cities (Taoyuan) in Taiwan and they are asking us about our experiences and wanted to do research on it.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Because we raised this problem, now more and more people in our community care about this problem. Invasive alien species like Green Iguana even invaded northern Taiwan and other invasive species like crested myna and African sacred ibis.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We have found that the most effective solution is a sustainable one. Any technical products cannot sustainably solve the problem. It might further causes more problems. Other methods like catching those invasive species will also cause another problem. It is too cruel to kill those invasive species. We need to find a way which is more humane and not to hurt those invasive species.
