Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Fengshu Village, Tongxiao Township, Miaoli County, is also known as Fengshuwo. It is part of satoyama . There are about 400 residents here, mainly engaged in agriculture. Wumei Junior High School is close to Fengshuwo and is one of the school districts. Fengshuwo is also one of the leopard cat hot areas in Taiwan. In 2012, Dr. Chen Meiting persuaded farmers to promote friendly farming, leopard cat rice,in this community, encouraging farmers to develop non-toxic farming and a friendly ecological environment. By doing that farmers and leopard cats can find a way for peaceful coexistence between economic and nature conservation.

2. Summary of Our Project

We believe that the issue of leopard cat conservation has its urgency. Everyone should protect leopard cats and take good care of them. In addition, our community is one of the rare leopard cat hot areas. The extinction of leopard cats has caused the ecological crisis. We can’t stay out of the situation, so we want to solve the problems we have found and make more people know that leopard cats are apex predators belong to the high-end consumer group in the shallow mountain forest. The extinction of the them will break the balance of the natural ecology, and it will destroy the chain of our natural ecology. We can’t afford the less of any species,so we have to take action to protect our Taiwanese species now.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:4-6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:4-6

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

When the plan was underway,we encountered new corona-virus pandemic. The physical courses and activities that were originally scheduled to be discussed and conducted at school have become difficult. After careful consideration, the active courses are retained, and the remaining courses are changed to online discussions and implementations. Social software and google classroom are used extensively for follow-up discussions and file implementations. However online courses will have different time, and each student has different time to reply and modify the file. When meeting difficulties, it is impossible to answer or guide students immediately, and the time to return homework is also more difficult to control. It is difficult for students to respond to email notifications. At this time, the friend function of the social software is important, because the students can be contacted and notified, so that this part of the problem has a certain degree of control. Students carry out propaganda on the streets, preparations for the Leopard Cat Cultural Base, and the opening ceremony. The course of the activity must be discussed and planned many times beforehand, including finding resources, assisting the activity personnel, student safety, and the way to reach the activity location. Achieving the purpose of the plan must be carefully considered. To take the initiative to open invitations and questionnaire interviews to the public, students need to overcome the fear and anxiety in their hearts and then bravely try.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

The student-based civic action allows more people to see the ecological issues that are taking place in the Tongxiao community through Cyber Fair, and makes more people aware of the importance of finding a way of living together in the development of ecology and people’s livelihood.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Through this special research course, we understand the whole process of proposing a plan, implementing and completing the research plan. Knowledge of multiple disciplines is also integrated. Topic design: In this event, we designed a questionnaire, collected information and data, and obtained a lot of information through interviews, thereby improving our writing and communication skills. Social Research: This research project helps to raise public awareness of guarding leopard cats, and attract students' attention, take action and actively participate. The interview process helped students understand the hard work and hard work of workers engaged in leopard cat conservation. Information In the research process, we use computers to organize the photos and videos and apply them to our web pages. Through actual on-site inspections, we have a better understanding of the importance of leopard act conservation to the environment. Through this research, we learned how to express our opinions, and the interview process taught us how to become more confident, how to express our ideas clearly, and the importance of cooperation and teamwork. In addition, we learned how to think and establish our concept of environmental protection by ourselves.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We used a variety of equipment to conduct this research, including the use of computers to search for information, contact with helpers, data integration, and web page creation. In addition, we used telephone interviews and face-to-face interviews during the interviews. When conducting face-to-face interviews, we used digital cameras to record videos to facilitate subsequent data compilation. These equipments are all provided by the school, including laptops, digital cameras, phones, etc. Among the many equipment, the computer is the first to help, and the computer can successfully complete this project, and the second is the digital camera. Whether it is interview photography, video recording or self-recording, it is all present. His value.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Interview activity: We interviewed the chairman of the Community Development Association, the director of Fengshuli, the owner of leopard cat rice field, and the residents of Tongxiao. Propaganda activities: We made posters at the school to promote the classmates, and we also went into the class to discuss this topic with classmates; out of school, we also went to the town and town residents to promote.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We conducted public advocacy in schools and communities. Because of this event, the people in the community got to know leopard cat better and learned about their environmental and ecological significance, and further strengthened the concept of leopard cat conservation and the actions of students. for sure. In addition, I would like to thank the leopard cat Conservation Association and the director of Fengshu Village, the chairman of the community development association and the councillor Chen Pinan for bringing the issue to the county council. In addition to public advocacy, the website we have established also allows more community members and parents to know about the efforts and dedication that students have made for the conservation of leopard cats.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Before carrying out this project, the school teachers conducted many courses, including the understanding of civic action, the steps to proceed, and more importantly, provide us more space for our thoughts and actions. For the problems we have, the school teacher gives advice, but does not excessively interfere with the plan we are carrying out, so that we can practice autonomous action. On the topic of research, we consulted the chairman of the Community Development Association, the head of Fengshu Village, and the relevant personnel of the leopard cat Conservation Association. To have a deeper understanding of this topic and the overall development, we contacted Mr. Chen Pinan to make the issue not only be fermented in the community, but also be able to enter the county council. I also thank these people for their help, so that we can really take the issue out of the school.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

In the process of planning, we became more proficient in the use of computers, and learned how to design and ask questions, and then how to solve them. In addition, many students said that because of the school's publicity, they have a deeper understanding of leopard cat. Because of these substantial progress and many positive feedbacks, we have gained a lot of confidence and sense of accomplishment in this project.
