Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

The Asean Square is in the old city of Taichung City. There are many social enterprises in the old city. Many young people return to our hometown to start businesses and use social enterprises to transform the city and make the city better. 1095 is Pay attention to the social enterprises of foreign migrant workers and new residents, because the Asean Plaza is the distribution center for migrant workers in the central part of the country. Therefore, 1095 hopes that through various methods, local residents and foreign migrant workers can integrate and coexist peacefully, enhance mutual exchanges and understanding, and eliminate discrimination.

2. Summary of Our Project

This semester we participated in a workshop organized by social enterprise 1095. They are a group of social enterprises dedicated to paying attention to foreign migrant workers and new residents. The four numbers of 1095 represent the total number of days that migrant workers can stay in Taiwan with a visa, 1095 day. After participating in the migrant workers’ board games, situational theater experience, migrant workers’ mobility course lectures and on-site interviews on migrant workers held by 1095, we discovered that migrant workers, these people who can be seen everywhere in our lives, are actually in our lives. There will be many difficulties, such as language communication, book borrowing, inequality of information, and even discrimination. Because we can do the same, we hope that we can do our part to participate in the action service plans of social enterprises. Therefore, we have drawn up some plans and took actual actions.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:4-6

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

In the process of research, because of the impact of covid-19, we must reduce the opportunities for face-to-face interviews, so we must use telephone interviews or video interviews. We must also learn how to make online questionnaires to help us quickly collect various opinions. In addition, in the action plan, we must also learn how to evaluate how feasible the idea is. These are all very important learning journeys for us.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Because participating in the workshops of social enterprises has allowed us to better understand the foreign migrant workers and new residents living in the same city. When we think from the standpoint of others, we will find that this group of people is actually no different from us. Everyone Moving from one's own country to another is all about living away from home to fulfill one's dreams. Through the method of making picture books and telling stories, we let teachers, classmates and parents in the school know more about the stories of these people, so that everyone understands more and less discriminates.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Our school is located in the old city. The school’s curriculum is based on the topics of the old city. In the fifth and sixth grades, students need to conduct special investigations to train students’ independent research skills and knowledge, so that middle school students learn how to query information and interview skills. , Correct use of network information, ability to shoot videos, etc. This semester’s topical research is in career exploration. We have met the emerging enterprise-social enterprise, and understood the difference between social enterprise and general enterprise. The purpose of social enterprise is to use enterprise methods to solve specific social problems, which also expands the students’ Vision, understanding that knowledge can be used and help society become better.

We not only interviewed the foreign labor affairs department of the municipal government by phone, but also interviewed the commissioner of the municipal library's planning and operation of the library car, and learned about the various information channels provided by the government and other sources. The school cooperated to visit the new residents who participated in Chinese courses on the spot, and they provided many life experiences in Taiwan.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

I want to say to myself before carrying out this plan: After this, there will be gains. Although the process may be very hard or want to give up, you must stick to it. No matter what you do, there will be good growth. So Be sure to challenge it! Come on! Before doing this, I never knew that we have a lot. I really want to tell myself that we must cherish the resources we have and be kind to people of different circumstances. I also want to tell myself before doing this task, 'Believe that you can do it, as long as you have the determination to just do it.' We also want to say to ourselves in the past that we must come up with ideas, and every idea is a good idea. Don't worry about ideas that are not perfect. Finally we want to say: We are great! Thank you for really doing it!
