6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

In our new curriculum, inquiry is the focus. Through our project, students inquire on insect problem in our community and even find ways to solve the problem. Starting from our community, it is a good starting point for our students to get to learn their community better. By working on the project, students need to sharpen their collaboration skills, communication skills, problem-solving skills, creativity skills, and ICT skills. With these skills, they collaborate with their team mates to communicate about how to solve the insect problem in their community with creative ideas by designing a webpage to share with the world.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

They use their smart phones to collect pictures and videos and use computer to surf online information to find out the solution to solve the insect problem in our community.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

They share their project on Googlesite and they go to Tech Expo in Taipei to share what they have done to solve insect problems in their community.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

In our project, students solve different insect problems. One group of students want to solve the lychee sting bug problem because this bug destroys the lychee farm in her grandfather's lychee farm. By making a lychee trap box, she wants to help her grandfather with the lychee sting bug problem to help her grandfather have a good harvest of lychee. Another group of students think a way to kill mosquitos because they are bit by mosquitos all the time at school. They designed a pest killer robot to spray around us to keep mosquitos aways from us. All the things they have done is trying to make our community to have a more comfortable environment for people to live and a more prosperous land for people to grow crops.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We shared our project in our community. For example, we have been to Renmei Elementary school and Niaosong Elementary school to share what students have done and help our kids to learn they can also do something for their community. In Taipei Tech Fair, we showed our pest killer robot with other visits to the fair so they learn what ways we found to solve the problems in our community.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We students this year can completely finish the webpage by ourselves. We designed the page, we add the origins of the resources and also film our own group videos and also find the solution to the problem. We become more independent by working on this project. We are proud of ourselves.
