Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Dadaocheng is located in Datong District, Taipei City. Many stores had been around in Dadaocheng in the first year of Xianfeng (1851), and started Dadaocheng 's business activities. After the opening of Tamsui harbor in 1860, Dadaocheng became the most prosperous collection and distribution center in Taipei. The main trades are tea and cloth. After that, under Japanese rule, Japanese businessmen boycotted foreign companies and turned to Japan and Southeast Asia as their main markets. After the war, Dadaocheng gradually lost its function as a river harbor due to the aggradation in Tamsui River, and Taipei downtown was gradually developed and moved to the eastern part of Taipei city. Dadaocheng became an old traditional district outskirt of Taipei.

2. Summary of Our Project

'Qipao' is an indispensable cultural and artistic product in the process of evolution in China. Every time in some important ceremonies and evening gala, we can see people wearing it which is very stunning, so every event can have brilliant ending. 'Dadaocheng ', the first impression people will think of is the cloth trade. Because cloth is easy to obtain, many famous qipao designers settle down here. This time we are going to interview the famous store----Yufeng qipao, and we vocational students are curious about how to make such a traditional and distinctive qipao which can attract many people to find a master to customize and we also want to know the original intention of making qipao, and understand the origin and inheritance of qipao more deeply. The research way of making this project is to browse the webpage to search for relevant information, and to understand marketing strategy and theory of business. By visiting and interviewing the boss of Yufeng qipao, we can have more understanding for its theory to run a business, and experience the unique characteristic of qipao in person.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:4-6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

The computer lab in school is connected to the Internet through fiber optic, and the server that stores project’s web pages and related data is the backbone network system with fiber optic which has an external connection speed of 1 G bps. In addition to using computer equipment to surf the Internet in class, most students can use computer lab to make webpages and flash after school.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Though there are many team members, everyone’s capability is quite different. When we have every kind of difficulty, we still need to solve it together. The problems we face are below: 1.Technique problems:The program code for the project is complicated. The layout, drawing and color matching still need to take time to be discussed and instructed by the teacher. Since this is the first time we made a project webpage, there are many places that are not very mature, so we still need to make lots of efforts. 2.The pressure of study:It’s a balancing act. While making the project, each team member must also take into account their personal study and various kinds of tests, or other exams, quizzes. Besides, we must make good use of our time instead of wasting. Time was limited and there was so much things we need to do. A stitch in time saves nine, so we must focus on doing everything. Although it’s very hard in the process of making the project, everyone still worked together to overcome the problem. It was a very cohesive thing. 3.Opinions conflict:Most of them are the color matching in layout and picture making on the project’s web pages. Regarding project’s web pages, some people think that colorful are better, some think simpler are better, so It still needs us to coordinate and discuss. 4.Time arrangement:The time of a day is very limited. How to arrange time is the task we encounter. After all, everyone has one’s own arrangements and has what one must do and wants to do, so we need to arrange our time reasonably. Then adjust and plan when you can review your homework, when you can make a project, organize your data, and so on.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

After this project, we know many details about cheongsam. You can tell if cheongsam is well made by just take a look. If you want to survive in the industry, you still have to see if the technique is good, whether it meets the requirements of customers, whether customers are willing to come again or introduce to friends, so that the business will last for a long time. I heard Master Chen said that he originally took big orders, such as Tzu Chi's clothing, but this can’t go on for long, and he finally turned to customization. I think this is a very special experience. I not only learned the uniqueness of cheongsam culture, but also learned the program code, layout and color matching of making web pages, and better understood how to make use of time to accomplish some things. If it were not for this project, I don't think we would have learned so much professional skills and culture.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

After making this project, we learn the importance of the research topic and the direction of the discussion. As for the data collection, we organize the information which is related to the theme as soon as possible. In the field of language learning: Team members learn how to skim through an article and summarize them for reference. Besides, when the instructors discuss with the team, they will capture the key points. We design questionnaires, interview, and learn how to express our thoughts in an easy way. In the field of professional courses: We used the camera and recorder of smart phones to take notes when we interviewed the people in the association; we also took pictures when we were interviewing, with the people in the association, and of the local architectures. We also made use of the software of digital image to have art design and of flash to design the banner of our website.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Item:software and function we use Image processing and flash making:Adobe Photoshop?Illustrator Webpage production:Adobe Dreamweaver CS6 Word processing:Microsoft Office Word 2010 Chart making:Microsoft Office Excel 2010 Data inquiry:Google Chrome Data transmission and storage:Gmail?USB flash drive ?Google drive Printer Questionnaire printing Cellphone, communication software:Tasks communication, photo shooting, and recording Computer lab: Webpage making, the place of team discussion

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

In order to make the materials for the project’s webpage more completed, we made use of the time after school on weekdays to visit Master Chen Zhongxin from Yufeng cheongsam (Chi-pao) to understand the original intention of making cheongsam, the main ideas, technical inheritance and other issues. After using the professional knowledge and techniques we learned in the school to collect and integrate the data, we create this website of our project, and use the expression ways of image and text to enable the public for better understanding of the features and origin of cheongsam through our project’s website.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Regarding the making of cheongsam (chi-pao), it’s originally in our vocational students’ thoughts that cheongsam is a kind of dress that people who are more traditional would like, but actually this is not the case. Because in some important occasions, cheongsam often plays an important role which adds a lot of color to the characters in many ceremonies. Cheongsam is not only an everyday ware, but also appeared in some cultural and creative industries, such as costumes in movies like the Assassin. At present, some clothing manufacturers combine cheongsam with modern clothing design to create many works to thrive on international stages.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

In order to make the materials for the project’s webpage more completed, we made use of the time after school on weekdays to visit Master Chen Zhongxin from Yufeng cheongsam (Chi-pao) to understand the original intention of making cheongsam, the main ideas, technical inheritance and other issues. After using the professional knowledge and techniques we learned in the school to collect and integrate the data, we create this website of our project, and use the expression ways of image and text to enable the public for better understanding of the features and origin of cheongsam through our project’s website.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Discoveries: We can get lots of information by making good use of the sources from the internet, Through the internet, we found this qipao master-teacher Chen Zhongxin, and when we visited in person we find out the qipao we usually don’t notice or think the old-fashioned one showing a new way here. Then we know qipao is not only limited to traditional one, but also western-style, and reformed ones. Through making the website to convey our thoughts to more people so they can come and enjoy them. It’s not easy to complete this project; the power will get stronger when we united it. If there weren’t collaboration from team members, the project might be difficult to complete. lessons : We must have fully prepared before or after interviews, so we won’t take much more time to revise it. If you still have questions after the interview, you need to raise them immediately. For the cyberfair, we spent lots of time to collect many aspects of the information before determining the project’s topic, but it’s because we only have discussion instead of visiting in person, therefore we wasted much time. In this project, we also learn how to discuss and communicate with each other and the ability to solve problems. Surprises: In addition to helping many qipao enthusiasts to make qipao, Master Chen Zhongxin from Yufeng qipao also made the costumes in the movie “the Assassin.” Master Chen showed the original design patterns to us, but he said that we could not take pictures. But the patterns were quite stunning when we saw them. Master Chen also mentioned that if there is any mistake when making the qipao, you can’t fix it but make a new one. The shoulder line is not right, and the seam is not sewn. All you can do is to start all over again. From all above we can understand Master Chen’s insistence on making the qipao.
