Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

The Segamat District is a district located in the north of the state of Johor in Malaysia. The district capital is Segamat Town. here are three main rivers pass by the district, which are Batu Pahat River, Endau River and Muar River.

2. Summary of Our Project

This project about Malaysia's top Paralympian, Hemala Devi.She has vision problems but achieved such a wonderful achievements.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Lack of time for discussion and research: Being secondary school students in the second year with heavy home work, we could only use our recess time after school to have discussion. Fortunately, our team members cooperated and collaborated to make every effort to minimize the negative impacts during the process, so that the research project produced great results. in addition Lack of experience in website production: This is our first time to participate in the CyberFair Project. We did not have any prior experience in website production. Whenever we met obstacles, we worked our best to find someone who was able to consult. There was much joy and setbacks during the research process. At the same time, Time limitation for interview: We confronted many restrictions in our interviews regarding this research project. The main challenge was the schedule to visit many places in Segamat, after school time.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

The life of Hemala Devi is a best example for youths who are giving so many reasons to achieve.Hemala Devi got vision problem but she never ever give up or fail to achieve the victory. The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

memorable and experience process behind admiration: We faced many ways of dealing with problems, and improved our communication skills. Although it was hard work during the research process, it bore sweet fruits. We understood that there is no 'something for nothing'. Secondly, Trust and better communication learned from the team work: There is always a price for growth. We learned respect, ways of communication, tolerance and forgivingness under the same goal. We also understood the meaning of forbearance, contribution, understanding, and thanksgiving.

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Hardware equipment: computers, digital cameras, digital voice recorders, tape recorders, scanners, printers. (2) Computer Software: Wix.com for webpage editing, Photoshop for image-processing, Microsoft Word for text editing, Ulead GIF Animator 5 for animation software, Outlook Express for sending and receiving emails, google chorome for web browser, ACDSee for image browsing, CuteFtp for information transfer (3) Internet: Instant Messenger, e-mail, message boards, FTP Server, ADSL broadband Internet, network hard drive.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We called the interviewees to schedule appointments before visiting them in person. In the interviews, we’ve gained a lot of knowledge, which also included how to access the interviewees and record the interview content. Through the interviews, we learned about the environmental cares. We also acted as ambassadors to explain to them the effects and responsibility of environmental pollution, how the researched information would be posted on a website for promoting Segamat. Our monitor talk with the paralympian Hemala Devi getting the support from her. Hema devi is exciting to praise us that we have a good title. We should treasure this chance. Many students ask us for teaching.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Those who are has looked at our Web pages will be motivated to achieve some valuable things in their life. Secondly we will get more athletes from the country. Those who are think that they got physical problems will look for it to avoid giving excuses to participate in sports.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Thanks to the school and the principal for the strong supporting and facilitating. Thanks to the Education Minister Dato Madzhir and Johor State Environment Exco Datuk Ayub for their strongly supporting. Thanks to Teacher Mr.Gopal for co-ordinating projects and helping us make plans. Thanks to the Ladang Segamat Estate Manager for actively cooperating with us.
