Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Our school is located at Mingde Road, Beitou District, Taipei City, Taiwan. This time we are in collaboration with Andrew Food Bank, Taipei for carrying out the International Schools CyberFair project. The two neighbors are separated takes to drive time of only 19 minutes. The special topic focuses on studying the Andrew Food Bank sponsored by the Andrew Charity Association. This is due to the fact that at present the Taiwan society is human-oriented. In many rural areas, under the circumstances for lack of resources and due to the huge family economic pressure, the growing up of children has subjected to a predicament. Andrew works for 0-15 year old vulnerable children in Taiwan during their growing periods, by combining with social resources to help families with difficulties, so that children can have enough food to eat. After Andrew came to our campus for one-day donation activity and led the students personally as volunteers, we were deeply moved. We hope that, through the presentation of this research project, it will let more people know about the good deeds of the Andrew Food Bank, and encourage participations, to jointly support the future small masters of Taiwan, so that everyone can become a helper to others tomorrow.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Time: Time arrangement is a common problem. During school days, we have unanimously decided to sacrifice our noon break time so that we will frequently have opportunities for exchange and learning. In addition, we have used communication software of cell phone for discussion of various work items. Sometimes we need extra time, such as participating in the activities of the Andrew Food Bank. In such case, we have to consult and get along with others for fear that someone may have difficulty or need to attend cram school. By means of conducting discussions and examining all the time schedules together, we have managed to find some available time that is suitable for everyone to carry out project activities. Skill Differences: Not every team member possesses the same degree of skill development. Some students are more talented and have participated in many similar activities before; however, some are less skillful and are unable to exploit more abilities. We employ the format of study group to let team members exchange with and learn from each other. In this way, it not only promotes the centripetal force but also enhances the growth among our project team members.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We had had at least two volunteer services at Andrew with our teachers until decided to participate in the International CyberFair competition. At that time, I had no special feeling and only that I had done two more days of work. But after more than half a year of hard work with our team members and mentors on the webpage production process, I have a deep feeling, i.e., a heart more willing to help other people. The volunteer work has become a meaningful thing. I hope that through this competition, more people come to know that there is a charity organization in Taiwan, which not counting hard work to make disadvantaged children no longer hungry and even establishing their moral education roots. That is the Andrew Food Bank. I also hope that more people at home and abroad to support and participate in Andrew’s work.
