Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

'Huashan Xian Yu' is known as “the seventh water mansion', the depth is more than 50 miles, the road is narrow and steep, the mounts and rocks are precipitous. Walking to the 5 miles from mountain, there is a valley which blocked the way forward, and there is a feeling of impasse, after crossing the way, you can also have the feeling of hope. It's more spectacular in the watery times. Valley landscape is very beautiful with a clear river flowing all year round, the weather is humid, trees and flowers flourish, and rare stone on both said. You cannot help admiring the wonder of nature.

2. Summary of Our Project

By students-centered and task-based teaching approach, to solve a brand new problem using what they already know, to appreciate all the hard work of self-learning and think independently, meanwhile, during the researching project, we learned to communicate with people in an interview, not only increased our knowledge, but also mastered the basic skills of information technology. With the quick development of tourism industry, many visitors from out of town come here which stimulate local economic development. And government has allocated a lot of money for creating “Natural galleries”--- Shixiagu. To compare with the difference between present and past, we understand that local economies would also be boosted by tourism development. It stemmed from practice and got continuous enrichment and development in practice.

There are no computer at student’s home. We have to work out at school. School has only one e-learning classroom with 90 computers for our searching the web, tying word and editing image.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

1.Time limited,Making use of two-day weekends and after-school activities.Planning our work carefully, although got busy, but had greatly benefitted us 2.Slow network.Searching information on line after class.As long as you can engage your brain, measure always more than difficult 3.Unskilled operation We'll learn as we go, and ask teacher for advice Webpage-making helps us to master the software operation.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

In this activity, our school took 'West China Story' as a comprehensive practice activity class, and there was a class every week. In the current new curriculum reform, in addition to the normal class, we were also advocated to improve the study and social practice, the purpose to participate in this activity is to give us a good chance to practice. We think it not only ensured our normal learning, but also broaden our horizons, and pay attention to the environment around in the spare time to collect, visit and take pictures.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

In this activity, our school took 'West China Story' as a comprehensive practice activity class, and there was a class every week. In the current new curriculum reform, in addition to the normal class, we were also advocated to improve the study and social practice, the purpose to participate in this activity is to give us a good chance to practice. We think it not only ensured our normal learning, but also broaden our horizons, and pay attention to the environment around in the spare time to collect, visit and take pictures.

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Hardware: Computer, camera, DV, Scanner, SD Card, Card Reader,U disk. Software: MEITU XIUXIU, Photoshop7.0, Word, Macromedia Dreamweaver

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We vigorously publicize the culture of Shixiagu,Natural galleries by means of practice and investigation that we explored every facet of history, geography and culture, paid visit the local villagers and village officer. We shared the results with school teacher and students. The important thing is that we hope people know the the history of Shiguxia, know hometown’s culture to awaken people's passion towards loving hometown.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Without our exploration, our classmates and people in our hometown have little know about Shixiagu located at the foot of Mount Hua. We shared the results of our research with those around us, let them know about hometown’s tourism resources, the important position of Shixiagu, and let people know better that is the charm of home.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We got our materials by visiting and interviews. Staffs and tourists provided a lot of information to us, particularly including old pictures. The local people told us many legends of Shixiagu, Villagers and classmates also accepted our interviews. Students actively cooperate with us to arrange time to share our results. In the whole process of research activities, thank the teacher gave us a lot of careful guidance and help.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Several times, teacher brought us to go on field trip during collecting information that developing our investigative skills and exploration of learning, made us to try or learn something new. We learned that it wasn't easy to make deep study of project. We have heard Shixiagu, but never got to find the story behind it. This time, there was an opportunity for us to explore and excavate the culture of “Natural galleries”. We found that a lot of local people did not care about their hometown’s culture, they even don’t know about Shixiagu. We hope that every people including the local people know about this place by our efforts, let more people love their hometown and do something for hometown.
