Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Our school is located at new town of Xigu district in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, Xigu district is 35’58,?36’14 north latitude and 103’19’?103’41 east longitude, east to Dongchuang township; west to the Fuhe village of Yanguoxia Town.

2. Summary of Our Project

With the time goes on, the rapid advance of science and technology,people's life changed a lot. Environment is more concerned. We took “Are you low carbon today” as our study theme, so that making more people to care about our living environment, protect our environment.

Our school has 2 computer classrooms, 70 computers. There have campus internet for three years, making us to use for convenience.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Because this was our first time to participate webpage making competition, we encountered a lot of difficult, such as, images editing, page format. Under teacher’s leadership, many knotty problems were smoothly solved. Through the competition, there's a new recognition of importance of low-carbon life, at the same time, it improved construction and development of school-based curriculum.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Under the leadership of teacher, we spent our leisure time to collect information, dug into the files and visit people living nearby. With guarantee students' normal study, it expanded our minds, provided our capability, an also learn to focus on our environment. The project has a close relation with school-based curriculum. The study of the topic and webpage making improved construction and development of school-based curriculum

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Hardware: DV, Computer, Cell phone Software: Photoshop7.0,CDSee 9 Photo Manager,Meitu Xiuxiu, Microsoft Word, Notebook

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

By entering into activities, our teacher led us to divide the works. We finished our work with good cooperation and trust each other. Everyone in the team got involved personally in investigation and advocacy; let more people pay too much attention to the seriousness of plastic pollution,let people care about the environment.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

During our investigation and interviews, we found that local people were always aware of the biggest damage of plastic pollution to human being, but they don’t know enough about environmental protection. Through our education and advocacy, local community paid too much attention to the seriousness of plastic pollution, to invoke the public awareness of environmental protection.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Local residents and workers from neighborhood provided data with us and helped to investigation. Having school leaders and teachers support and encourage, classmates and parents' help, our website ” Are you low carbon today?” can complete smoothly.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

During the webpage making, we advanced in collecting information, photographic skills, sorting out and analysis of data. We couldn’t even believe that webpage were all done by ourselves. Our computer application ability was improved. Team spirit was strengthened. We should start from me to put low-carbon way of life into practice. Our living home depends on everybody.
