Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Hemei is a town in the northern part of Changhua County, surrounded by Taichung, Shenkang, Xianxi, Lukang, Hsiushui and Changhua City. Our town has over three hundred year history since its initial development. Our ancestors have shed sweat on this land in order to build a warm and peaceful town. The youngest elementary school in Hemei~ HeRen elementary school, founded in August 1997. In early days, it happened to be the time society started to pay more attention to disabled groups, special education and integrated education. In 2004 it set up a special education program for children with physical, intellectual, learning disabilities and homeschoolers. In order to help their physical rehabilitations, to build their confidence and to expand their life stage, we founded boccia team. In recent years, team has won many honors in regional or national championships. The best result is national champion in children group. This project starts with a small boccia team, trying to popularize boccia and exploring a shining life stage for disabled students. Furthermore, boccia has grown into a leisure sport among seniors and parent-child in the communities. It has become a popular national sport.

2. Summary of Our Project

Boccia belongs in adaptive physical education, and it can be played for pleasure, fitness or mental exercise. Compared to other sports, boccia is less intense, less energy-consuming, and can be played unaffected by weather under roof. It can improve muscle strength, fitness and judgment, so is very suitable for the growing senior population. The sunshine class of HeRen elementary school in Changhua County founded a boccia team in recent years. It helps disabled students on physical rehabilitations and building their confidence. We hope boccia can lead them out of campus participating regional or national boccia championships, also helping them fit in society, crowds, and expanding their life stage. We hopes boccia can become more popular through HeRen boccia team. More people can learn this wonderful sport suitable for young and old!
