Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Kaohsiung is located at Southern Taiwan, and Cijin is an administrative region of Kaohsiung where was small and the south peninsula adjacent to the Xiaogang district. The terrain is long and narrow with Southeast, Northwest toward both approximately 11 kilometers long and 200 meters wide, but due to the Kaohsiung port of the second extension, the canal was to split between Cijin and Xiaogang district. Connecting between Cijin and Cianjhen county is Kaohsiung Harbor Tunnel which is Taiwan's first cross harbor tunnel constructed by caisson method, completed in 1984. Therefore, Cijin became an earliest administrative region of Kaohsiung City which is the only one of the barrier island.

2. Summary of Our Project

Cijin island is a wonderful place of origin of the humanities and fishers. Because of the earlier development, the island has many monuments including fort built in 1874, lighthouse built in 1883. In Cijin, most of the early residents live on fishing but recently due to fish depletion fishing for living has been less and less ;Therefore, most of the residents transform to tourism industry or out of employment. Cijin is rich in tourism resources and has many monuments, including the 'Fort', 'The Lighthouse' and ' Temple', the famous second and third grade monuments.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

For this contest, we met some difficulties. First, we found that taking good pictures is not an easy thing. It’s common to take no sense or not clear photos. So we decide to refer other website’s photo and ask for photographers advice. After this useful help, we finally had useable pictures. Second difficult we met is we have a lot of information about Cijin, but we felt that is not good enough to touch someone’s heart, so we set out to interview local people, let us had more story about Cijin island and it’s history.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

In this period of time, we realized that have good teamwork is the very important thing. When we met any problem, we could find the answer together. CyberFair really lets us more close and let more people know our country and beautiful island. I think this is very meaningful.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The production of CyberFair can learn a lot of things that are not normally learned in class, such as the distribution of work, make use of time, etc., we also learned that the work is not an easy thing. Subject research is a different learning way from the regularization teaching of school. Because each person maybe gets the different harvest, it all depend on how you effort for. Through the research, we had more experienced than others. And about the production of web pages, data collection, data typesetting, team cooperation also has a practical application. These are all kinds of personal experience is necessary to pay effort, so get something is very valuable.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

For the technologies about website design, we learned how to use PhotoImpact, Adobe MUSE cc, FileZilla and other softwares. For the information we tried to obtained, we surfed online and read lots of book in the library. We also arranged some interviews with councilor Lee in Kaohsiung, some abbots in temples and local people in the Tourist Service Center and some stores. We even had a small talk with some visitors when taking photos here. As to photography, our teacher taught us how to take photos well and how to use computer tools to make our photos look better.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

1.Some enthusiastic locals were willing to be our guides and led us to somewhere we were planning to go. 2. Some older local people told us about historical spots here. We, therefore, obtained information unexpectedly. 3. Some people were eager to provide relevant information and told us stories about scenic spots. 4.Some local residents even came along with us to visit some places, which made our visits go smoothly. 5. In addition to councilor Lee, we couldn’t complete this job without many local people who we didn’t know their complete names. They were like our neighbors and friends. Thank you so much.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We have integrated the local travel information and history in the website. Through interviews with local people, Influence each other. When they knew that we are doing this project. They’re happy to help us know more about Cijin. Introduced us some valuable historical background. In our website, you can find many delicious food information about Cijin. So we also put this useful information on our facebook and tell our friends. We found some people showed their interest to our website and became our friends on Facebook. Some people even left some good feedback or suggestion to us. We share our opinion very happy.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Some students in our group have relatives live in Cijin. So they can ask them to get more useful information. When some vendors know we are introduce their food or product to visitors and foreign. They agree with our interview without hesitation. We really appreciate their help.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We really learned a lesson, that is we should done every part early. Because its more work than we think. And we find Cijin people are very kind. We thought the interview with someone should be more difficult part first.but it really well,we really grateful.
