2. Summary of Our Project

Clean up local surrounding, lots of county are relying on cleaning team. Douliu city is led by the mayor of Douliu, Hsieh Shu-Ya. She increases the efficiency of cleaning team, and encourage the social and community of Douliu. 2011, volunteering environmental protection team were started, more than 1,000 people joined, which become Douliu environment guardians. Victoria Academy continue to research Douliu city’s tourism resources from last year. A clean environment is the basic components to develop the tourism. The mayor also uses the “Garden city” from Singapore as the rule model for Douliu. Victoria then create our own volunteering environmental protection team and join the list. From the survey of volunteering environmental protection team from the entity Questionnaire, to the investigate from internet, and the comprehensive Interview at last. We interview Mrs. Hsieh Shu-ya and the leader of cleaning team, Mr. Yang Qi-jun.Also, we interview the principal of the cleaning team, and try to solve the local environment issue.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

A. When we concept about pour topic, we think will be easy to interview every leader or principal of the volunteering environmental protection team, because there are only 29 teams in total. However, we discover that the members are too many after the interview, we can not do it at once. Also, some of them has a job and some of them are low profile and they don’t want to be interviewed. Thanks for the encouragement from Hsieh Shu-ya mayor and the support from leader Yang Qi-jun. We split our team into many small groups and interview different volunteering environmental protection team. Because there is no bus system in Douliu. Therefore, Thanks for every teachers and parents to assist to pick up students. B. Focus on 29 volunteering environmental protection teams that split in Douliu. We used to think to interview every principals and of the cleaning team one by one and asked them question face by face! Through the training activities for the volunteering environmental protection team, we make a questionnaire for interview. After that, ever people also design the internet questionnaire. Every share the questionnaire to their Facebook, Twitter, or to their family or friends. We not only gain lots of answer form the enthusiastic people, we can also analysis the command that people gave as the results.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

The difference from the past years to take part in cyber fair is that we interview elder environmental volunteer teams with mostly women, and I really appreciate to the volunteers that assist us to complete the research project. With millions of residents in Douliu, there are over a thousand environmental volunteers want to help us. In this activity, I saw that no matter the volunteers have jobs or not, all of them sacrifice their holidays and sleeping time in order to protect the environment. They are entirely national environmental vanguard! Although this time limited by the timeline, we cannot interview them one by one, I hope that we can continue to work on it in the future. In addition, the major of Douliu-Major Xie said he hopes that we can finish all the interviews with the environmental volunteer teams and write a book about it.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

This project makes us understand how important is it to keep our environment clean, and how hard is the work for those cleaners to do everyday. Even though the works are difficult and tiring, the smiling and sweats that drop on the ground are not getting less. We learned the spirit of each cleaners and put their attitude of working as a role model, which we will attach and put in our daily life.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

First of all, we used computers to do researches on the internet. The technology nowadays is really useful and convenient. After we did the research, each of our teammates used their mobile phone to contact the interviewer they wanted to talk with. Last but not least, we used camera to record every single interview and captured every single details form everyone.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Most of our visits or interviews were contacted by mobile phone. Normally, interviews were done quickly, cause our interviewers were shy and never done an interview before. However, there’s also some very interesting things such as a very negative interviewer, who took us to his house and farm to enjoyed the nature!

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

During this project, we had interviewed our city major. She believed through this project, we can spread the idea of environmental friendly to the city and every community. She also believes there will be more people to join the group of Cleaning team. Like what she always said, “Together, we make our life better!”

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Most of our helpers were teachers and parents from different teammates. However, there are still many other helpers such as the cleaning team and leader, they demonstrated the work thy do everyday and the rules of cleaning. I really appreciate and feel very tankful to have them get involve in this project. Even a little move will make our work easier and simpler.
