Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Taiwan is located in the east of Asia and it connects Pacitic Ocean in the east. We first checked information online on Forte Hotel to learn its origin and visited Forte Hotel Changhua to see its environment.  Through deep interviews, we understood the efforts and devotion of its employees and obtained detailed data via interviews with its management. Besides, we learned how to place a cup, pour water, hold a wine glass, place tissue, knife, fork, and tray from employees of Food & Beverage Department and learned how to place items in a guest room and pay attention to detai

2. Summary of Our Project

Changhua is a traditional industrial city with many factories and SMEs, attracting many foreign customers coming across the Taiwan Strait to negotiate businesses. In order to provide a good place for them to communicate and attract tourists, Forte Hotel is located in Changhua, close to many scenic spots including Changhua Station, Changhua Christian Hospital, Baguashan, and Changhua Roundhouse, making it the best choice of tourists.

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

It's a good experience for us to produce the Cyberfair project. We can know the industry of 'hotel' well and learn more knowledge outside the textbooks. Our comments for the following study are below: 1.Read more books online or at library as you can. 2.Manage your time well. 3.Try your best to learn computer software. 4.Teamwork plays an important role in the project. 5.Last but not least, as the saying goes 'no pains,no gains.' , try to keep this in your mind. To sum up, thanks for all the people that helped or supported us. We really realize all people in Fortel Hotel spent much time on their job.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

5. Problems We Had To Overcome: (1) The hotel:

As Forte Hotel Changhua is affiliated to Howard Plaza Hotel Group. It took us a long time to contact relevant staffs as they needed to report to different levels. We explained the purpose of our Cyberfair project, communicated with relevant staffs, and provided diagram and information related to the project.

Our appointments with relevant staffs of Forte Hotel were subject to changes as they might have last minute groups or leave of staffs. Thus, we needed to make an appointment with them two to three weeks in advance for their convenience.

Personnel change of Forte Hotel. Mr. Kuo became our new contact. Personnel change brought about extra burden to us. We had to send the background information, ideas, purpose, and problems of our Cyberfair project again. Due to our efforts and engagement, Mr. Kuo helped us greatly.

(2) Writing:   Each member was different in writing skills, logic thinking, and ideas.

(3) Interview:

We first checked online or at library about the background and responsibilities of our interviewees. Without such preparation before interview and asking questions randomly, our interviewees would feel that we didn't respect them. Our interview questions needed to be specific and purposeful. We practiced our Q&A by ourselves. If 60% of us could answer a question, it meant that our interviewees would also answer it more deeply.

(4) Time management:

While doing our Cyberfair project, we also needed to do homework and participated in school competitions. Thus, we had limited time for the project, resulting in submission delay and unsatisfying writing. Hence, we should learn how to manage our time.

(5) Computer software:

We met many difficulties in software and spent much time solving them. Some could not understand the icons of Ediepluse. For instance, 'H' stands for title, while 'P' for paragraph, and 'tb' for table. Some members didn't understand.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We learned a lot of experiences which could not be learned in our daily life through our visit to Forte Hotel, such as interview, hands-on experience of housekeeping and catering services, hotel operation, and so on. After this project, when I stayed in a whole withi my family, I'd pay attention to everything. And I would not criticize that the room was not clean or tidy casually, as I learned housekeepers had spent much time and efforts in their work. Through our hands-on experience, we know how long it takes to tidy up a room.      Besides, we learned that each member was indispensable. Although sometimes some delayed their writing, we would help and encourage each other.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Language:We developed our writing skills and other language skills through discussions, journals, interviews, progress reports, web browsing, relevant books, data collection, analysis, and summary.

Social Studies:Through our interviews with Forte Hotel employees,we learned 'Marketing 4P', that is, product, path, price, and promotion. A product shall have unique selling points. Prices shall be adjusted for different markets. The relationship with dealers and customers helps develop paths. And promotion shall be done via special plans. These are 'Marketing 4P'.

Arts:Through our visit to Forte Hotel, we learned much knowledge in taking pictures, such as photo framing and close-up. Also, we learned a lot of arts edition concepts through web page production and drawing.

Topic for information:We understood how to use information technology, software and hardware, data collected online, and Google comments to learn the views of customers on Forte Hotel. And in the end, we presented our whole work on our website.

Comprehensive activities:Through team activities, we became aware of the strengths and weaknesses of ourselves and learned from others. We became more confident to ask questions and express our ideas through group discussion, visit, or record.

Mathematics:We learned middle school students' viewpoints on Taiwanese hotels and Forte Hotel employees' opinions on their intenral marketing, overall management, and corporate culture through questionnaires posted on Google and pie charts via Excel.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Our main Internet access is the computers at our Computer Classroom. Through specific line and Internet, we logged in our Google cloud to produce our Cyberfair project. Through the server, we received various network services. Our network was smooth, while technologies were stable, fast, and safe.

Digital camera:To take pictures and videos

Recorder pen:To record interviews

Headphones and stereo:To transcript interviews into text

Computer:To search data, process words and images, and produce webpages

USB drive:To store data

Word:To edit text

Google cloud harddrive:To collect and organize materials

Telephone, E-mail:To contact and share data

edie plus :To edit webpages

Gimp:To covert pictures into files and edit them

Google form:To do statistics of questionnaire

Miicrosoft Office Excel:Making pie chart

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

1.Through the study tour, we learned the skills of taking notes and interviews We should write down keywords in our notes to avoid memory blur or content missing. Recordings could make interview data more detailed. Before an interview, we must read information on department business and work content and prepare questions. Two of us would simulate the interview. What's most important was that when you encountered a question worth of further exploration, we should keep on asking to dig out deeper and more interesting reply. 2.We learned knowledge and skills related to computer required for website design First, we used camera to take panoramic or close-up photos, and then learned compressive editing and graphic design to make the photos clear and not rigid. As of banner design, every headline had two to three soluble diagrams. Plus the logo of Angle Garden, we created a elegant webpage atmosphere. To make our study deeper, we made questionnaires with Google forms and made pie charts with Excel so as to know the viewpoints of Forte Hotel employees and middle school students. Finally, we made website mapping through Ediepluse and finished the work. Our excitement was beyond words. 3.Purpose of service Service refers to process, performance, and enthusiasm. 4.What discoveries did you make about your educational system? Students could only know the working condition of a hotel via visit and could not experience the hard work of its staffs.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Through our web pages, more and more people know well about Forte Hotel. The relationship between Forte and Lu-Ming is a cooperative, marketing strategical, and optimistic. Indeed, this project has brought some impact in our community. Forte Hotel Changua provides employment opportunity for local residents. People who are interested in tourism service will surf our web pages, and understand what hotel management is, and what the requirements are for the job. For tourists or foreign guests, they can visit many profound tour sites, such as Lukang, and Taiwan Glass Gallery. If they don’t know where to stay, Forte, just like their second home, may become their best choice. For students in Changua, they deeply realize that sightseeing is a customer-centered industry, if they work in a hotel, they may suffer different kinds of problems, try to overcome them, and the requirements for the jobs. To sum up, our web site is helpful to both Forte Hotel and our community. Besides, we also learn it is not easy to run an industry. There is no denying that hardship is the basis of success.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Our Cyberfair project took Businesses and Organizations as the theme. Forte Hotel was the theme. During this period, we had learned a lot of things. Although we had met many difficulties in producing the website, we encouraged each other and finished our due parts finally! After this experience, we discover that the work of each department is important and indispensable! We understand the hard work of service sector. Before, we just saw their bright appearance, but ignored the hardship behind their work!
