Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Dacun, located on the island of Changhua County in central Taiwan, is a rich local agricultural products. There is a research institute in the prefecture Taichung District Agricultural Improvement Station, this unit has a Ph.D. in rice cultivation, in his 30 years of life, the eight kinds of rice varieties bred to improve people's food problem, this is Sheu Chih-Sheng.

While humans have been growing rice for thousands of years, but in order to look for higher yields, better quality, special natural flavor or aroma, environmental tolerance stronger, less vulnerable to pests and diseases of rice, has also been trying to cultivate better varieties. To study and learn the spirit of him as a theme, hoping to let everyone know through cyberfair rice breeders dreams and adhere to, as well as knowledge of rice cultivation.

2. Summary of Our Project

Tai-keng 9 is Taiwan most popular good quality rice in the rice market, it has a unique taste, best for sushi rice, and it also has a good durable reservoirs, even the old meters have tenure of good taste for the new meters. Sheu Chih-Sheng, Dr Tai-keng 9 research and development history, program director involved in the longest, because Tai-keng 9 successfully, so that he was elected in 1995, the top ten outstanding young people.

Breeding of new rice variety, the shortest takes 6-8 years. Tai-keng 9, noted for its truly Ph.D Sheu Chih-Sheng, for example, from the 1981 investment in breeding, after 12 years of success.

Dacun junior high school uses fiber-optic network, which allows us to use the Internet to search for data and shared among members. Everyone has ADSL home network connections, you can use the FB community and LINE information exchange and discussion.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

We encountered the first hurdle is the professional, although every day at dinner, since that rice should not be so hard to understand, the results only to find the contact, each process are professional. From the farm experience, understanding rice, field sampling, rice harvest, seeding process, visit the farm, cereal, color sorting, packaging, rice, everything has his expertise, all of a sudden you can not understand, need time to digestion.

The second track problems, Ph.D Sheu Chih-Sheng offers us a lot of information and photos, I do not know how to organize, how to render on the site. We had to use to organize and understand the perspective of the information presented on the site.

The third problem, everyone's time is difficult to reconcile, several teammates have in class, but fortunately finally came up with the concept of the cloud, the cloud will send information and ideas, we put forward the idea of taking the time to solve this problem.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

While you are working on this project, we gained a lot of valuable experience. Our research Ph.D Sheu Chih-Sheng, he spent 30 years improved the food problem, we also have to challenge one's Outlook on life. Through our project, we expand the impact of Ph.D Sheu Chih-Sheng. We hope there will be more people know Ph.D Sheu Chih-Sheng, to get them thinking about how to be successful in their lives and contribute to society.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We learn the following skills: 1. meeting skills: must be polite when we talk to each other. We told respondents, who we are, our interview purposes, the contents of our talks, and this is of particular importance. We also try to take into account the timing of the respondents, thus ensuring a smooth interview. 2. writing skills: this Cyberfair project, we found on the Internet data Ph.D Sheu Chih-Sheng, organizes and presents the data on a Web page, this is very difficult. This is a very good training. 3. teamwork: in the course of our project, because the amount of data collection and compilation, we have to assign the work to achieve the task. In this process I have learned how to get along with people, and how to coordinate the work, so that each person's ability to fully play.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Ph.D Sheu Chih-Sheng had promised to help our team to complete tasks, he is about to retire. But he still makes time to accept the interview and coordinate activities. Ph.D Sheu Chih-Sheng as early as the theme because there was a program 'hero as' interview, describes the stick of breeder and dreams, Dacun Ph.D Sheu Chih-Sheng work due to geopolitical relationships, so we got to follow his lead, the local leaders to participate in Cyberfair category. We hope that, through the net sector fair opportunities, so that more people know the passion and energy of rice breeding expert, stick with the dream.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

In the course of study, our research Ph.D Sheu Chih-Sheng deeds, we understand the impact of food crops for human. In Taiwan many farmers are very respected Ph.D Sheu Chih-Sheng, and also thank him for his contribution to the farmers. On his retirement, was not very willing.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

During the data collection process, our teachers are assigned from books and Dr Xu Zhi-Sheng information on the Internet looking for the task. Due to many professional, so there is the need for Dr Xu Zhi-Sheng's personal guidance. After the visit, Dr Xu Zhi-Sheng will all assist in the completion of our work, and colleagues to help us experience tour.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Development of this blog, we learned a lot of things, first, the importance of the learning organization to work, because if there is no arrangement good everybody proper work, there is no way to play to their strengths. Second, the importance of learning to schedule coordination and interaction, because if people don't know that the idea will not be able to provide us assistance.
