In 2011, government planned to set Phase 4 of Central Taiwan Science Park (CTSP-4) in the Erlin, and it was originally scheduled to carry out river closure from Tzutsaipi Ditch, but the heated dabate on the allocation problem of water resources was triggered due to farmers' resistance. In the end, government accepted the good advice to transform CTSP-4 into precision machinery park and cancel the water diversion project. Farmers in Hsichou established Hsichou Shangshui Water Farmer Co. Ltd and actively promote non-toxic and friendly farming methods so as to retrieve the dignity of agriculture and the hope of sustainable agriculture. 5. Our Project Sound Bite

Land, water, guava and farmers have interweaved the most unsophisticated and precious rural culture in Hsichou Township! Thanks to this Cyberfair project, we finally have a chance to approach the land where we stand on and further understand the greatness of land and farmers. Though this Cyberfair project, we have a deep feeling that the non-toxic and friendly food will not be produced to maintain our life without the enthusiastic and persistent farmers as well as their brave trying and challenge in new agricultural management methods, although “water” is the basis of agricultural development. Hsichou Shangshui Water Farmer Co. Ltd is the pride of the folks in Hsichou. It is believed that it will be the pride of Taiwanese with the joint effort of the company and farmers.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

During the process of research, we used digital camera to take photos required and used software to edit and compile the relevant photos to present the best-fit effect of web page. In order to obtain the first hand information and increase the reliability of Cyberfair project, we carried out several times of field visit and also used the voice recorder to record the conversation with farmers after asking for the farmers’ permission and made the interview record for use. In order to better understand the problem of water resources in Changhua, we even invited experts to our school for lecture and also visited the Paddy Wetland and Pear Garden on site to confirm what we have heard and seen. When we cannot obtain the first hand information, we mainly used internet to collect information. We paid special attention to intellectual property rights and specify in detail the sources to comply with the regulation of intellectual property rights. The information tools we used were all the devices of our school. In order to obtain the information smoothly, we received the relevant training and guidance before use.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Our research process, on one hand, makes the teachers and students at school care about the current status of agricultural development in their hometown, on the other hand, the complete research process of Cyberfair project makes everyone know that the agriculture they are engaged in is not the work without hope. We can create the characteristic brand of agricultural products in Hsichou to obtain the recognition of the widespread consumers as long as we are able to work hard to develop the originality and learn with heart, and the young people will also stay in Hsichou for farming due to the increase in income.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Through participating in this Cyberfair project, I have seen the greatness of farmers in Hsichou and also understand the laborious and persistent efforts behind the farmers in Hsichou. Thanks to them, the villagers in Hsichou can eat the local organic vegetables and fruits which are reassuring and healthy. In my childhood, I ever recited one poem of the Tang Dynasty like this: “At noon hoeing up the crops in the sweltering sun, sweat dripping onto the soil beneath the crops. Who knows that the meal in the dish Each grain is filled with hard work?” Whether it is just the homework recited to teacher for listening? Whether we just know that farmers are painstaking and do not know why they are painstaking? This Cyberfair project enables us to know our deficiency and also enables me to have a deeper understanding of the sweat behind farmers’ hard work.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

1.Thank “Shangshui Water Farmer Co., Ltd.” for being interviewed and introducing their business philosophy and the process of the development. 2.An old couple running “Pear Paradise” led us to visit their pear garden, and shared the friendly agricultural ideal. 3.The teachers and cooking mamas in Cheng Gong kindergarten show the delivery of non-toxic food materials and how to cook them.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

After the research for these days, I have seen the idea and greatness of these nobodies, and also have understood the hard work, and insistence behind the farmers in Hsichou Thanks to their attention and efforts, more people can eat the reassuring foods, I know very well that there is a group of enthusiastic people who contribute great efforts for farmers and land in Hsichou, not asking for anything , and they just hope that their ’’love’’ for this piece of land can be passed to everyone, and more people know the beauty in the countryside. Hsichou Shangshui Water Famer Co. , Ltd has created these farmers and also benefited people . The rich in Hsichou Township can be said the most delicious rice in the nationwide. The irrigation from Zhuoshui River gives the bright clothes for the rice. It is very gratifying that the originally 7-years land has become 11-years land. I am thinking whether Hsichou Township may become the kingdom of rice if all the people in Hsichou Township come to cultivate such rice. It is hoped that this imagination can come true in the future. I feel greatly honored and pleased to participate in this project. More time paid for these days is worthwhile. Thank Cyberfair project for giving me this opportunity.
