1. Description of Our Community
Yongjing Township is known for an abundant number of flowers and trees, and traditional temples. Among them, Jian-nian (cut-and-paste figurines) art on the eaves are the most fascinating art crafts. Temples are the mian religious center of Yongjing people. The cut-and-paste decorative art on the ridge shows the excellent skills of the craftmen who also endure much hardship to complete every artwork by standing on the eave or the roof. Dragon and phoenix are the most common figurines in Jian-nian art, also flowers and birds, animals, and figures are all included.
2. Summary of Our Project
In the very beginning, Jian-nian (cut-and-paste figurines) art is only the substitution for Koji ceramics. The beautiful topic of the eaves is based on the three historical landmarks in Yongjing-Yu San Guan, House of Royalty, and Chengmei Hall and other temples. In order to get to know the Jian-nian artwork, we experience how to produce a real Jian-nian artwork by using paper bowls, straw, and fruit to create some couplets or flowers. We experienced the hardship work and had a better understanding about it.

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%
B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:4-6
C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection
D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:2-3
E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):
We are still new to the website production. Sometimes we finish typing all the data, but as soon as we are going to forward it. It was all gone. It's very frustrated. Luckily our teacher gave us a lot of help. We learned and improved a lot.
4. Problems We Had To Overcome
Website production is difficult because we don't have enough experience and background knowledge is not enough. Luckily, our teacher helped us to overcome all the problems, and we get to know it gradually. Time for research is not easy to arrange. We use our nap time to discuss the research. In order to avoid conflict of our students' learning hour, we have to arrange and plan time to visit all the temples and historic sites. We divide into teams, visit the sites on holidays with family, take the advantage of computer technology to exchange information. Sometimes the computer is easy to crash, network speed is super slow, and can't upload information. These are the troubles we met. However, we have to make more efforts and keep going, do remember what mistakes we had make, and then use back up information. Finally we made it.
5. Our Project Sound Bite
Teamwork, information editing, website production as well as knowledge of Jian-nian (cut-and-paste) art are all very important at this cyberfair activity. Though it's hardship, we learned a lot.
6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
The CyberFair project research plan and activities are combined with Grade 1-9 Curriculum-humanities and art, language areas, social and local society, full use of internet technology, and integrated learning activities. In addition to appreciate the beauty of traditional art, we made some Jian-nian couplets artworks. It was an amazing experience. When doing project research, we need to have good language integration to convey what we want to explain in the internet. That was also a rewarding learning experience. Besides, this project combines with local community, we understand more about our local art and have a great thankfulness for those who are dedicated to protect our traditional artworks. In this CyberFair activity, we need to have basic internet background, therefore, using the Internet and learning have been more effective than traditional methods. There is no time limitation to share or study the related information. Internet does enhance our ability for using information.
