4. Problems We Had To Overcome

About time, we face the stress both from schoolwork and extra curriculum, the students could not finish their assignments promptly. Moreover, some of them were not available to attend the important meetings. About skill, for we were unfamiliar with making web pages, we spent a lot of time learning the skills of how to lay out the pages, change the colors, use appropriate syntaxes, etc. About experience, for it was the first time for us to get in touch with paper-making machines, it was confused for us to figure out the problems about the machines, its industry, etc. About cooperation, although the cooperation among all members was needed for completing the competition, the disagreements and division of labor did exist. About interview, for it was our first time to meet the president and we had no experience in interviewing, we make the mistakes about the interview taboos of being shame and reading questions, although we had conducted an orientation in advance.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We have learned the operating secrets and tips for running the business. Besides, President Lee said that the real essence of the business cannot be stolen physically, and do not be afraid of being imitated by others. Blindly following others footsteps without your own acknowledgement can prove your undoing.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Desktop computer Laptop computer Wi-Fi unlimited access to the Internet(provided by the school). Scanner Cellphone Landline USB Drive Digital camera Animation with Adobe Flash CS4 Editing with Adobe Photoshop CS4 Web page design with Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 Word processing with Microsoft Word 2010 Note Book The most valuable tool is Adobe Dreamweaver CS4. We didn't make project-based web pages, so we spend many time to learn how to use it. When finished our web, it not just a software, it also sharpened our capabilities.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We met by chance the owner of the Paper Limited Company (hereinafter referred to as the U.G. Paper Company) is the president Lee, Sheng-Chung (hereinafter referred to as the President Lee). After deciding the appropriate time to visit the President Lee, through reading books on the subject matter and discussing with members the questions that are to be asked during interview, the interview questions were then sent to the President Lee for an overlook. After that, we then have to do the face to face interview with him. We are very grateful for his help, so that we can have more substantial thematic contents and more thorough presentation. The President Lee also talked about the start of the company, the history of it, types of paper, the characteristics, and the manufacturing processes with enthusiasm. We will always remember the President Lee’s help towards this project in our minds. We also realize that the company is a business company with enthusiasm, determination, and hard work.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

During the interview process, we have learned the tips of how to run the management and the ways of how to make the paper bricks. Moreover, we have broadened our knowledge of delicate papers with different purposes. From the president, we have seen his determination of being himself, his quick wits of not blindly following the trend, as well as his prudent and flexible entrepreneurship. For the president was prodigal of teaching us the business secrets that can’t be told and willing to share us celebrity sayings, we have learned quite a lot from him. Through deepening understanding and knowledge of business operation and different purposes machines, and realizing the details about the layout of factory’s plan of routes, this project has opened another for us door to knowledge. Furthermore, to deeply understand the crucial role that the paper plays in our daily life, we arranged some paper related activities, such as making cardboard rocking horse, visiting the King of Carton, and experiencing building a mission impossible DaMorLee Eco-Friendly Leisure Farm. Although all the members were the first time to attend this Taiwan CyberFair and we all were unfamiliar with making web pages, we learned a lot of skills, methods and any of the necessary details of word processing. We have also learned how to simplify the data, share out the work and help one another, and design the web pages, etc. Under the guidance of the devoted project advisor and his patient assistant, we have advanced in this field. We have struggled together till the completion of the project, we have tasted the sweets and the bitters, and we have gained different outcomes associated with the project. These have led us up to meaningful afterthoughts and benefited a great deal.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We are the classmates, the range from elementary school to senior high school. And we all have interests in technology of making our own web.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We find… 1. Paper can not only withstand the pressure of tons of weights, but also can be made of furniture and three-dimensional decorations. 2. The company adheres to the traditional manufacturing industry in Taiwan, even though hard and difficult. It is admirable to have a passion for innovation and continue to demonstrate Taiwan’s new vitality in this industry. 3. The President Lee gives us the impression of not confining to the traditional seriousness and cautiousness toward business. He continuously reminds us to have a sense of humor and passion, in order to activate your entrepreneurial life. 4. Team leader and teacher assign specific works and exercises needed to be done today, to enhance the efficiency to the maximum. 5. Importance of planning in advance has proved with the situation of locating the photo in a sense of chaos. 6. Operations and skills of computer applications have sharpened our capabilities during this competition.
