Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

It is located in the north of Honggu District Lanzhou city Gansu Province, which is oriented south and north. Yongning Temple is grand and magnificent. The soil fort around it is 7 meters high, 2.5 meters wide at the bottom, 1.5 meters wide at the top. There is brand about 30 meters in the front of the temple, about 8 meters long, 5 meters high, and workmanship is fine, it is rare in northwest. There is gate with a pair of Stone Lions. There are three halls with Buddha in the north of gate. The center has a square censer. North Hall is the main hall, where honors Muni, Zhunti Buddha, wheel single thousand four protectors, the eighteen arhat, a total of 360 which is called 'the temple of God'. The east and west hall are symmetric architectures, a total of six halls. There are four kitchens in the southwest corner of temple. There are two towers in the Temple, about two feet high. There are two Cast iron bells, 24 big Tibetan books, 24 small Tibetan books. There are five square Pagoda Temples near the Eastern pagoda, tower is 1.8 meters high. It was rebuilt after burned in Qing Junji years. In 46 years the Qing Emperor Qianlong was destroyed by the soldiers, in Jiaqing 13 years it was rebuilt. In Qing Tongzhi 4 years November 25th it was destroyed again, there was only left the monument. In 7 years, three churches were built in North Hall, the scale was not better than before, the rehabilitation was renamed 'Zhang Jia si'. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, with the Gaolan, 'cave temple,' 'monastery' named three Buddhists holy lands

2. Summary of Our Project

To learn the history of Yongjing temple’s development, to probe the ways of promoting further growth of the Yongjing temple.Through our investigation, inquiry and research, to let the outside world know more about Yongning Temple, promote further development and growth, improve visibility.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

We consult technicians in town and talent when we met difficulties, they helped us to solve some technical problems, here to say thank you to them all! We spent the weekend rest time to gather material, sorting out the data, and organizing data with document processing knowledge which we had learned on information technology class.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Many people know the story of Princess Wencheng, but they don't know the Princess Wencheng had a short rest in Yongning Temple, so we have a duty to let more people know. Although we do not have any advantage in terms of production technology Webpage, we all do it in the heart, we hope that through our efforts, the most real thing can be showed to everyone, at the same time, our students also learned a lot of things, it will be of great help to their future growth.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

When we determine the site's theme, arrange the division of labor, with a camera to interview the Yongning Temple CMC uncles, they were very happy, they hope more people know Yongning Temple and history of Princess Wencheng through our Webpage. This time we feel we have high pressure, because if our website can be done well, more people will know the Yongning temple.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

This is the third time to take part in Webpage contest, we know nothing about Webpage before, and we can only find information through Baidu. Several students have no confidence, so Zhu Yongzhang let us see the Webpage which had won the prize, then said, Webpage contest was not focus on the beauty of Webpage, but paid attention to connotation of Webpage, and the town and talent staff can help us in technical aspects. Next, the teacher Zhu and we determined the Webpage theme together, and arrange the division. Our team is consisted of a teacher and four students.We spent the weekend rest time to gather material, sorting out the data, and organizing data with document processing knowledge which we had learned on information technology class.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Through our investigation, inquiry and research, to let the outside world know more about Yongning Temple, promote further development and growth, improve visibility.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

To learn the history of Yongjing temple’s development, to probe the ways of promoting further growth of the Yongjing temple.There is no obvious influence, and I hope that through Webpage, we can let more people know western, Honggu and the Yongning temple.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Staffs from the local tourism administration provided us with information.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Prior to this, we know nothing at all about Webpage making knowledge, we originally thought it was very difficult, but after we did it, we found it is not too difficult, so we have to do our best when encounter difficulties, in the process of making the website, both our ability and thinking ability have improved significantly.
