Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Irma, a rural community in east central Alberta. It is two hours south-east of Edmonton, Alberta. The town has about 500 people living in it and many more people around. People mostly make a living by farming or oil and gas industries. Activities are mostly sports but there's activities and shows in the local school for entertainment. Irma is a quiet, little town with a big heart.

2. Summary of Our Project

Whenever someone hears Irma, the first thing they think about is sports and how successful we are. Our School CyberFair Web Project is about how sports inspire and unite us as a community. Whenever there's a sporting event, most of the town comes out to watch as a community. The community is unbelievably supportive of all the kids and adults that join in the sports and if someone does something good it never goes unnoticed.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:2-3

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

We had multiple snow days in which slowed the process of making this website. We were rushed with time to complete this but we worked together to inspire each other and got the job done.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

It has made us work together as a group to get the project done in a limited amount of time. We united as a group to accomplish this task and successfully reach our goal.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We addressed inspire and unite with globalization and social 10. Learning to use teamwork, communication, and listening as well as participation. To listen to each other and involve everyone. Classmates and teachers work together to help others understand the material. everyone inspires one another and we come together as one. when we come together we can get anything done. A little but we still need a teacher.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We used; telephones, radio stations, many computers, videos and still cameras, and computer software. These tools helped us accomplish what we set out to do; build a website. We located them around the school. Probably the computer and internet. The internet helped provide sources and allowed us to make this website.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Everyone in the grade 10 class contributed to being an 'ambassador' in some way. A few of the students phoned people and did interviews with them. Visiting them was another way to get the information we needed. in my opinion they were impressed with how well we were working together. How I can tell is by the way they continued to trust us to do the work and allowed us the privileges to maintain our website and the materials that we put on it.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

More acknowledgement for the accomplishments our little village has made. It depends on how many people really look at it. I would say yes if they take the time to appreciate all the hard work and dedication we have put into this website. Not yet because the website isn't up yet. for the most part we were always working with our community but we have established a new working relationship with a few people outside of our school. A few parents have taken the time to look at the website we have spent so much time on. Only the best feedback and positivity. Depends who 'them' is but I know its helped out the school and our community.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

A few allowed us to interview them. they took the time out of their busy lives to help us finish our project. There was Mike Soucy and Kyle Parsons. Mike Soucy has won multiple awards such as the Queen Diamond Jubilee. Kyle Parsons travelled to New Zealand and lived there for quite some time playing baseball. Kyle is our teacher and Mike is very well known around the community and Canada. Allowed us to interview them. Thank you very much to the help they provided us with.
