Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Our local community is Devrala village in Bhiwani District of Haryana State in India. Here we see many cultural diversities. It is rich in traditions and cultural heritage. We wish to highlight its uniqueness. We wish to revive the old culturally rich traditions through our Project.

2. Summary of Our Project

Our website has the objective to acquaint all with our cultural diversities and age old traditions. We wish to bring to highlight the rich heritage of our locality. We used ICT skills for the aforesaid purpose. People will learn about our culture and may feel attracted towards it. It’s a learning experience for all of us. Cyberfair Web Project gave us this unique opportunity.

We live in a residential set up so they get computers only in Academic building during school hours. We have 40 computers. We have broadband connectivity. We have this connection for nearly four years. We had computer access for two days a week.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

We have connectivity problem. Being a remote area we face such problem now and then. Due to bad weather we lost connectivity many times. We had limited computer access. We have learnt ICT Skills recently so we faced problems creating our website. Our Computer teacher guided us.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We have successfully learnt new skills of ICT. We researched, analyzed, imagined, presented about local Art and Music forms. For music classes this work proved to be very beneficial. We were given Grades on basis of our Project work. Our interest developed and this will be a useful experience for our future life.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

It is related to our subjects Music and Art. We learnt about our local Art and Music Forms. We were given grades and were evaluated on the basis of our Project work. We developed our skills in ICT. We learnt that bookish knowledge is not enough, Project based learning is the best method to learn new things. Traditional methods of teaching are not enough. It was a real learning by doing. Internet was extensively used to create our website. We developed a team spirit.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We used Computers, tablets, cell phones, Photoshop, Animation softwares, weebly for website, digital art softwares, digital camera.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We informed our local community about our Project and interviewed some local craftsmen too. We informed about our website to parents and news reporters. We held music and dance competitions at school to promote folk dances and culture. We arranged for an Art workshop to familiarize students with local crafts and pottery.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Many local persons showed interest in our Project. They motivated us. A local dancer offered to arrange for a workshop in our school. Local craftsmen visited our school and showed many items of their craftsmanship to students. Our District Education Authorities visited our school and appreciated our efforts.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We have a team of local craftsmen and Artists who are willingly helping and guiding students. They visit our School now and then and keep in touch. We have very supportive authorities. Even State Schools, neighboring schools are extending help by sending their Art teachers.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We discovered about the rich culture and traditions of our locality. People have been blind to the truth that by sticking to our culture and values we can progress and thrive. Our Project helped us to realize this truth. We learnt to respect local craftsmen, their excellent and unique skills. We found ourselves enriched and enlightened. We learnt ICT Skills and developed team spirit.
