Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

After the Retrocession of Taiwan, the textile industry in Changhua County was very prosperous. It was called “the Textile Kingdom”, especially famous for “Homei Zhi Zai” (The Textile Kingdom in Homei). The development of Homei Township also encouraged the textile industry in other townships, and it was the foundation of textile industry in our living area. Moreover, most of our textile factories were woven cloth and strip factory. It was easy to see some webbing looms in many people’s houses working.

We can’t live without textile in food, clothing, shelter and transportation. Thanks to the Cyberfair, we used this chance to realize textile industry’s history in Shengang, interviewed several domestic textile factories, in order to know more about the textile industry’s history, ingredients, cotton, weaving and processing, etc. Through the DIY activity, we realized the theory of how the textile machines weave. Besides, we also knew the beginning of the dreams more deeply, which were ownedby the bosses of the domestic textile factories. Being called “Sunsetting Industry”, there were lots of joys and sorrows behind.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The Cyberfair is a multi-learning activity; we combine the career-searching in campus in order to let students realize the history of the industry in countries. We felt the founder’s story and the attitude of living life from the interview. To know the country can help make alive teaching, make students cherish their homeland. Therefore, you can lean more by walking in the country to know more history. From the activity, what we learned most were the cooperation and the coordination in the group, and the analysis and interaction form the conflicts. Also, in the report, students can show information from the points to the entire area, then the structured homepage. This kind of process made students have the good ability to integrate things together. Therefore, the activity mixed many aspects: “Curriculum Integration”, “Career Development”, “Cooperative Coordination”, “Difficulty Breakthrough”, “Experience Learning”, and “Industry Cognition”.
