2. Summary of Our Project

Our study on Hui cricket could help the students better learn about their own ethnic minority area and build the sense of love of their hometown. In the activity students had a chance to learn much beyond the textbook, such as interviewing skills, methods of data collection, on-the-spot investigation, webpage making, participation in cricket, and visit etiquette, etc. Moreover, the students have understood the importance of team work, and they did what they were good at to achieve the goal of each phase of work while taking the initiative to learn from others’ skills they were interested in.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:less than 20

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:2-3

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

Our school accessed the 10M fiber-optic network provided by China Railway Telecom in 2004, and 50 terminals in the computer room can hook up to the Internet at any time, so can the terminals in all offices and functional departments. To make file access more convenient, our school network management center provided a wave server as students’ personal data and webpage storage space. According to the research I made on the information technology courses, merely 15% of the whole school students can surf the Internet at their home, and four students of our team all have computers with Internet access home.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Time for interviews between the students and interviewees could hardly coordinate,Scheme out the interview plan as early as possible and determine the interview time in advance to guarantee the safety of schedule. With the help of webpage making professionals, our problems got solved. Contact actively with the deputy headmaster in charge of this to reduce our unnecessary activities and work to the greatest extent thus our time is guaranteed.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

What struck us most in the activity was the charm of cricket. Today as material culture becomes increasingly rich, people’s pursuit of spiritual civilization is more than ever before in history, and as a traditional national fitness project, cricket can better accelerate the construction of spiritual civilization in China. Through participating in this activity our not only learned about cricket, but also learned to cooperate with other students and communicate with teachers, what’s more, my writing skills have been improved.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Our study on Hui cricket could help the students better learn about their own ethnic minority area and build the sense of love of their hometown. In the activity students had a chance to learn much beyond the textbook, such as interviewing skills, methods of data collection, on-the-spot investigation, webpage making, participation in cricket, and visit etiquette, etc. In the process of our special study, computers and the Internet did us a great favor, for with computers we could search for information and data we needed on the Internet quickly and then exchange our idea, cooperating with and supporting each other; moreover, we could store and retrieve data in different places through network, which enhanced our ability to operate the computer as well as improved our working efficiency, meeting the needs of the information education of the nine-year curriculum and integrating real information into the teaching.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

During the research process we found it was hard to make an in-depth study in a project. We during the webpage making process gradually had a profound understanding that cricket sport was not far away from us and such a health and recreational sport needed each of us to participate in. We also found that now many people had not gained an adequate understanding of cricket, so the publicity of cricket is pressing. This was our fourth time to participate in the CyberFair, though we had some experience accumulation, it was not enough, and the webpage we made was not satisfactory for our horizon was not open enough, our capacity was limited as well as we were not familiar to the special study. However, we have understood that nothing in the world is difficult for one who sets his mind on it.
