Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Liancheng Town lies in Datong River, jurisdiction of Yongdeng County, located in Yongdeng County northwest Ba bao northern port, east of Datong River bank. Liancheng Town to the west of Ledu County of Qinghai province, north to Tianzhu Tibetan nationality autonomous county of Saishisi County and Dayou County, Tongyuan County; South to Heqiao Town in the county. Four seasons of year is mild climate, rich rain. Datong River runs through the entire area,water source is sufficient, the forest is dense, products rich. Liancheng has a long history, as early as the Neolithic age, river two sides lived humans, our ancestors here created a splendid Ma Jia kiln culture in Gansu province. Liancheng area with convenient traffic, Min (and) Men (source) road and Lianhai railways across the territory, local roads in all directions, opening of the village;Territory of rich products, forest area of 370,000 acres, the grass mountains of 200,000 acres.

2. Summary of Our Project

Lu chieftain Yamen old site located in Liancheng of Datong River. Built in the early Ming dynasty, is one of the greatest impact chieftains in the northwest.

After hundreds of years of continuous expansion, reconstruction, forming a chieftain court unusually well preserved ancient building groups. In 1981, he was listed as a cultural relic protection unit at the provincial level, in 1996, listed as national key protective units. After much discussion of our team, eventually selecting Liancheng 'Small Palace'--- Former Lu chieftain Yamen, as the main direction of our research. We primarily from 'Small Palace' legend of the origin, location, structure, characteristics, status, history, architecture beautiful brick carving, precious frescoes, heritage protection and so on to introduce. To show the people the 'Small Palace' of mystery and precious heritage value. We want to through 'Small Palace' introduction to let everyone have a full understanding of 'Small Palace' in Lanzhou, which became important in Gansu and the country's tourism attractions. Through our rationalization proposals, so that 'Small Palace' are better protected, at the same time stimulate the development of the local economy more effectively.

The school has an Internet room and 4 MB fiber access. But our school computers’ configuration is relatively backward, operating is slower. Due to lack of school funding, daytime Internet population is much, the speed is also very slow. Therefore, every Saturday and Sunday, we have several people to the school to the Internet.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

First, we participate in website competition for the first time, no experience before, nor do know that middle school students can participate in the international webpage making. This term, introduced by the teacher, in Qianxianwancai publicity, we knew something, enrolled in competition, and step by step into the role. Our interviews, researches often encounter difficulties.Our interviews and survey activities must be made under the teachers guidance, but our guidance teachers have very heavy workload in school, during business hours, the teacher cannot take us out of interviewing, investigation, only took use of a limited number of weekend, working overtime to operate. Despite the difficulties a lot, but in a well preparation and the prior contact, so that our interviews and investigative activities to be carried out smoothly. Time is short, heavy tasks. When we learned that we can participate in this competition, time has arrived in mid-October, at first we confused, all were messes. Later in the 'notification bar', we have scanned the page notices of competition, and several times contacted Qianxiangwancai Zhang Yinghua teacher across networks, only some ideas. And then we start to form team, analysis of local features, resources, and our school's existing difficulties, reference of prize-winning works in recent years, and finally after discussing analysis, determined the theme of our research--local monuments. 5. Our Project Sound Bite

Looking back the experience of participating in the Web contest, we've experienced a lot of things. Teacher organized us to compete for the first time, we don't know what; Online registration entries, our excitement, surprise; Using a digital camera for the first time, we carefully; Online exchange with Qianxiangwancai for the first time, we are fresh; Build website and make webpages for the first time, some of us rush; Community took the first time, we feel a bit of not fit, but we literally experience webpage contest happy, knowing our local history and culture. We believe this competition will make us learn a lot of knowledge!

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We put 'Small Palace' for main clues, combined culture details of Honggu district and Yongdeng County, from our regional life started, as language writing, history, geographic and art for Foundation, making them and information technology, social for integration, through research, we understand much about Lu chieftain Yamen and local history, economic, development, heritage monuments and legend, through research, we understand much about history of chieftain Yamen, religious activities, protection measures and the maintenance ancient heritage of people and thing; In the course of our work, we learn much not studied in the classroom, broaden their horizons. At the same time, in the course of making, interviews through mutual encouragement, assistance, discussion not only enhance the friendship, and forming a team spirit, experience the importance of unity, assist. In this activity, we also got the selfless help of many people, we've learned to love in the heart to love and concern for others. In short, we have reached a 'learn to discover, learn to study, learn to collaborate ' purposes.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We believe that understanding ang protecting Lu chieftain Yamen was our pleasure, each of us should play a role of 'researcher'. We according to the information collected made out interview plan and study theme, respectively interviewed different people and collation, analysis, research, and finally write research reports. Through this activity, further strengthen people's understanding of Lu chieftain Yamen, increase their sense of protection and development. Our research results turned into the webpage, and placed on our website so that more people over a network understand Lu chieftain Yamen further, which becomes a beautiful scenic spots in Gansu whose fame to the world. To stimulate the development of the local economy making more peasants get rich, so that all children can feel at ease to read.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Make us a better understanding of Lu chieftain Yamen: a study on this topic, we are more aware of Lu chieftain Yamen, later, when we visited chieftain Yamen and other places, we will not scrawl doodling, we are confident that our website content would be best, so that more people through our website to see Lu chieftain Yamen In the course of the study, we understand that the chieftain of Gansu is so much, so unique, and as cultural heritage of humankind. 4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?
