Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Mr. Lai Qingsong decided to return to the fields and cultivate the most natural rice using natural agricultural methods, to organize a “grain stockowners club,” and to construct the most authentic alliances between producers and consumers. This has infused new vitality into the Lanyang Plain, and is the most authentic call of the land.

2. Summary of Our Project

Lai ,who is deeply imbued with environmental awareness, decided to adopt natural methods of cultivation that totally rejected the use of agricultural chemicals and chemical fertilizers. Through the creed of “returning to the fields for a natural lifestyle” he founded a grain stockowners club that promoted the conviction of eating what you cultivate.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The most serious problem that we encountered was the difficulty of coordinating time for students to conduct interviews with subjects. Although students all liked conducting interviews, there seemed to always be conflicts between time for classes and time for interviews; in addition, the majority of students had to go to tutoring classes after school.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

?Xinhui? The rice from the grain stockholders club is rice that is commonly attested by one and all; the quality and danger of the production are assumed by everyone.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We hope to develop in students practical abilities applicable in other area such as the drafting of plans, the collection of data, the skills of participation and interviews, the production of webpages, etc.Through the collection of specialized materials and production of our project.

We are participating in the activities sponsored by Mr. Lai Qingsong at irregular intervals and actively arranging interviews with relevant persons, studying different events and things, we will also publicize our research project to those who participate in Lai Qingsong’s activities.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Our interviews with Uncle Lai Qingsong this time let us discover that some people are continuously struggling for the health of what we eat and maintaining the connection of our lives with agriculture. We need to thank many, many individuals who have helped us over the course of our research. We thank those of you who have taken time from your personal lives to be interviewed by us, who have provided relevant materials so that our research was smoothly completed, as was the work of establishing the web page.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Before when we ate, we used to be picky and waste a lot of food. But through this experience of interviewing him, only now have we discovered that it is only through the hard work of farmers that our tables are able to present such rich and nutritious food.
