Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Taipei Municipal Yongle Elementary School is located on the inside of Dadao-Cheng of Danshui front, is an elementary school of old community. Business was very booming here because the Dan-Shuei River facilitated transportation next to Dadao-Cheng in early days.

Because Chinese herbal medicine need to be imported from different habitats, and Di-Hua Street’s shipping is convenient, more and more Chinese herbal medicine stores chose to manage their stores here.

Therefore, Di-Hua Street has formed special gathering in Chinese herbal medicine industry culture.

2. Summary of Our Project

Chinese herbal medicine industry has existed for a long time, is one of unique Taiwan cultures. Chinese herbal medicine emphasizes adjusting physical condition from the inside out slowly, although short-term effect was not significant, but the treatment outcome is more durable.

Recently the doctor clinic is more universal, and the doctors can pay by National Health Insurance, efficacy of medicine more quick, so the Chinese medicine declines gradually.

Facing the change, traditional Chinese herbal medicine industry will put more innovative elements in Chinese herbal medicine, to make Chinese herbal medicine culture more universal and younger.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:less than 20

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:4-6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:4-6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

School: There are 62 computers in 2 computer classrooms, 19 lendable notebook computers, are used to connect with Server Room by optical fiber.

Home: Using the ADSL for data query and file transfer, and apply a web page space at school as Supporting Website and Network Attached Storage.

Teachers & Students: Using the blog to communicate and discuss with classmates and teachers.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Firstly, Lack of prior knowledge: We have experience shortage to the knowledge of Chinese herbal medicine, must continue to ask the boss to understand.

Secondly, Time of the questionnaire is limited: Because we can only do our research and questionnaire after school hours, the time is very insufficient.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

In order to allow all our classmates to understand and learn the culture of Chinese herbal medicine, we condensed the research results of “Med story” and the project webpage into a power point file and reported and promoted it to our students and teachers during lunch breaks.

Moreover, the following is the ways how we impact on local.

Firstly, make traditional culture and innovation clever thought able to continue to spread to accept through the student to the investigation in local old store.

Secondly, through the establishment web page let everyone know the process of the innovation management with Chinese herbal medicine, then close and reacquaint traditional Chinese herbal medicine culture.

Thirdly, through the analysis of crisis strategy, we are developing student’s courage to turn crisis into opportunities, and encourage our classmates to reaccept and close our traditional culture.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

(Combined with General Guidelines of Grade 1-9 Curriculum of Elementary and Junior High School Education in our plan) With school-based curriculum 'Dadao-Chen' as the theme features in Taipei Municipal Yongle Elementary School, we expect to constitute small Dadao-Chen guiding and explaining volunteer worker's team in the future.

(The use of information technology in our plan) We use much information technology in different purposes. Using the telephone, fax and cell phone contact each other. Using personal computers and notebook computers surf the Internet to collect information. Using digital cameras and video recorders do a complete record. Using web page software manufactures web page.

(Way to play the Ambassador of Taiwan School Cyberfair) We share our website and report with our classmate, and expect to constitute small Dadao-Chen guiding and explaining volunteer worker's team in the future.
