Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Yin town Bazhou district is located at the junction of Ba, Yi, Lang the three counties, and scenery is beautiful here with talented people. The Red Army was stationed here for a long time, so it is called 'the hometown of the Red Army'. There are more than 100 Red Army relics, existing places are more than 30.

2. Summary of Our Project

Through visiting the footprint of red army and interviewing old Yuan Jiaxiang, we knew cultures and stories of red army in hometown, and more deeply understood the spirit of the Red Army, at the same time realized significance of red army slogans which was carved on the cliff ... We felt a lot through this activity.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:less than 20

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:1

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:4-6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

The ADSL net is used in our school, five members all can’t surf online at home, and there are only two computers with internet access conditions in our school. Because students have no special computer rooms, so the most of the contents on the website are finished on the computer in the teacher's office in spare time under teacher's instruction.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

1.Internet speed is slow in the school----Make full use of class time to find information on the Internet'. 2.Students are not familiar with on the software and webpage making---Learning while using, asking for help from teachers 3.The money of extramural interview is insufficient----Team members can get allowance from school and themselves. 4.Team’s activity time is insufficient seriously----Making full use of the weekends and extracurricular activities

5. Our Project Sound Bite

The culture of red army is an important component in the China traditional culture, Yin is the hometown of the Red Army, and this is the pride of Yin people. Through visiting the Yin Red Army sites in Yin town and interviewing Yuan Jiaxiang who is the offspring of red army, we have a more profound understanding of the Red Army and the Red Army cultures. Although our strength is very weak, the level is not high, but we have delivered the red army culture in Yin town and the spirit of the red army to the friends from all over the world. We worked together for a common goal in these forty days, even though it is very hard, we got more joy!

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

In order to let more people understand the history of Yin town and the essence of culture, our team has made a bold decision, to share research results in nearly one month with the whole students, we separately propagated Cultural Festival of Red Army in each class. Through this activity, not only our communication skills with students had been cultivated, but also let the students have shared our achievements.Through nearly three days’ efforts, four students in our team had completed the task. The principal of the school spoke highly of our actions. Each member in our team was very tired in this week, but this kind of harvest made us feel very satisfied, all of us felt we have done a big thing with a strong sense of achievement.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Hareware:computer,camera,digital video, scanner Software: Photoshop7.0, Microsoft Word,laptop

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

In the course of our research, we visited the offspring of red army, some of the local old soldiers in Red Army and rural cadres. We also shared with all the students. Most importantly, we hoped people know Yin history, know why Yin is the hometown of the Red Army, let everybody know more about his hometown, to understand the culture of red army.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Our classmates including a lot of people in our hometown would know nothing at all about achievement of Red Army which had been occurred in Yin town if there was no our study, knowledge about the spirit of the Red Army cultural connotations was less. Through my research, we shared our research results with the students and the people in hometown, let them understand the revolutionary history in hometown, understanding the significance about hometown of the Red Army deeply, at the same time, they get more understanding charm of their hometown.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Our material is gotten mainly through visits and interviews. The old Yuan Jiaxiang in Civil Affairs Department offered us a lot about the Red Army, and he also told us a lot of red army stories which happened in Yin town while accepting our interview. Some of the old soldiers in red army also participated in our interview, and school students cooperated with us to exchange Red army histories in Yin town. And of course the teacher gave us a lot of guidance.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

In the course of the study, we found that it is really not easy to research a project thoroughly. We have been growing in the Yin town, and we could see many stone slogans of red army on the way to home after school, but all of us didn’t ask the stories of stone slogans. Not mention its true meaning. I also found a lot of knowledge which we didn’t know previously through profound study, such as the battle and the Red Army stories which had been occurred here.We also see that less and less people pay attention to the culture of Red Army through visiting, we hope that more people understand and pay attention to the culture of Red Army through this project, pass on spirit of the Red Army, inherit and carry forward the fine revolutionary tradition!
