Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

We have visited the Sultanahmed Area; the historical part of Istanbul and when you walk around in that area you can easily see the friendly people of Istanbul. Most people who live in big cities such as Istanbul hurry for everything. But here you can experience very hospitable people who tries to buy you a cup of Turkish tee always. Of course here is very touristic place but still you can see lots of untouched secret places. Lots of foreigners live in Istanbul so you will never feel different from local people.

2. Summary of Our Project

our aim is to showcase different man-made and natural attractions which have a rich cultural history and which are the most fascinating expression of ancient Ottoman civilization. We want to do a research why these attractions are the most visited places and why they interest tourists as well as local people .

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:2-3

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:2-3

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

First of all it was a sunny day but it was -3 (very cold for turkish people :) We are 5 girls (it is difficult for girls), so we have not got any experience for creating a webpage, but with teamwork and lots of patience we could do it.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Understand the similarity and difference of people from different countries, looking to the world from a wider window, and also show and explain our culture to the new people.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Teamwork was the key element while in this project. Some of the girls took pictures and the others help them on creating webpages. We decided everything democratically, we have voted for all different ideas, and this kind of brainstorming always guided us what to do and where to go. Internet teaching maybe the biggest invention on all education history. We use tablet PC's and smart boards and it helps us to receive all kind of useful information very easily.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We used 2 Nikon D90 digital cameras, all girls used their tablets and their PC's, we also used flyers from museums and other touristic information booklets to understand and share the importance of those places. Without nice cameras we could not took good pictures. It helped us to show very beautiful scenes of istanbul.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We tried to interview lots of tourists, to ask their opinions for Istanbul and also to answer their questions. We recommended the best places they should visit and we tried to make a good impression on them. Before having this trip we made a survey about which place people certainly visit when they come to Istanbul. Opinions were different but everybody agreed on that Sultanahmed the unique place which reveals Turkish culture and history.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

First of all, we learnt a lot of new things while fulfilling this project. We couln't stay indifferent to the things we learnt, the things we saw. And we certainly wanted to share this with evrybody. That's why we tried to upload the best photos and description of Istanbul. This conveys an idea that local people can also been amazed by the beauty of the place they live not mentioning tourists who come here. We think that the trip we went on was amazing and we never got so many positive emotions.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Everyone wondered about our project and offered their help and assistance. We would like to say thanks to them. Our parents played a great role for us, they supported us, they even joined the trip we had to Sultanahmed. Our coach teacher and all the teachers at school tried to help us accopmlish the project.
