Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Longgang Township Sichuan Pingchang County is the birthplace of gong dancing, which is located in Northeast of Sichuan Province, south of Daba Mountains, and it is 51 kilometers away from Pingchang County. The early name is Macaoya, because there is a temple just like a watchtower. Longgang Township is bounded on the east by Xixing Town Pingchang County, on the south by Huilong Village DaChuan City, on the west by Yuezhong village Yingshan County and on the north by Xiangtan Town Pingchang County. 2. Summary of Our Project

After we were sure to take part in the world webpage contest theme -- national intangible cultural heritage 'gong dancing' this September, we asked around the surrounding 'gong dancing' artists, but the result was not ideal: most of artists had been more than 60 years old, and unable to perform this art, young people who could show it had gotten out to work because of the little money. We hope that we introduced gong dancing successfully, there will be more people pay attention to this kind of dancing art, gong dancing will better and better, not only improve the cohesion of nation and the development of Chinese culture, but also enrich the world culture.

There is a computer room with 30 computers in our school, all of them are blue screen, but access to the internet is not good and only for teaching. There are two LCD computers in every office, the internet is better than computer room, but the teachers will use it to work.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The team members are high school students, all of them are good students and study very hard, because they are not in a same class, they can't work together in the process of making webpage, so they have to make webpage break time and gym class time. We had encountered a big problem in the subject study. The subject of our study is to research cultural arts, its cultural atmosphere is deep, it is the moral life forms of the human, it is very important that we can’t lower our guard, we feel a strong sense of responsibility. In order to do it well and find its connotation and value, we took a lot of time when we collected the data. We got in touch with County Museum, and they supported us very much and gave us complete information.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

This activity not only let us feel the beauty of folk art, but also learn how to face the difficulties in life.We benefited a lot from this activity. There is a good chance to success if to do everything with your heart and perseverance, everything will be successful. Wu’s spirit will help us for our lifetime.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

In the interview, we learn how to deal with strangers, and it exercises our capacity of social interaction In the process of theme studying, we deeply understand the connotation of art and culture, deepening the understanding of society, developing interest in arts, increasing our sense of social responsibility. To deepen the knowledge of culture and social life, it is helpful for us to learn knowledge of culture. In the process of making webpage, we learned some basic webpage making knowledge and technology, image processing technology and picture editing technology. Computer courses which were learnt in school played a very important role. In addition, the network also played a very important role in the process of webpage making, and it was jack-of-all-trades in our life, which had helped us solve a lot of problems. Not only deepening our understanding of the computer and network knowledge but also our understanding of the modern science and technology knowledge, it exercises our ability.

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

In the process of theme studying activity, we need to play the role of 'ambassador' in 2 places, the first one is to go to museum to get support and help collecting data, and the second one is the interview of Master Wu who was an inheritor. The leaders in Cultural centers supported us very much after they knew our intention, and sent people to explain and find relevant information for us in the whole day.We arranged time and interview after we contacted with Master Wu, he was fully cooperative, explaining and showing.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We study make the local people realize the importance of gong dancing, and they all agree to make a contribution of gong dancing inheritance. For example, they will invite gong dancing artists to show when there is a wedding at home, let more people understand and pass down it.We hope that we can introduce gong dancing with a long history to complete province, the whole of China and the whole world through the CyberFair, let more young people and elderly people know gong dancing, let us pass down art, to study and carry forward the life loving spirit of Ba people.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Our material is gotten mainly through visits and interviews. Master Wu and his family offered us a lot about dance, and he also told us a lot of his art and bitter stories while accepting our interview. The leaders in Cultural centers also participated in our interview, and sent people to explain and find relevant information for us in the whole day. And of course the teacher gave us a lot of guidance.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Learn computer knowledge is the important foundation of webpage making.Webpage planning is the key step to webpage making, it relates with vital to the survival of webpage work.Thinking in life, learning in practice and study for the purpose of application, then we can learn the knowledge effectively.
