Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Tucheng District is located in southwest of New Taipei City. The current population of the Tucheng District is about 23 million.General impression of Tucheng is mostly an industrial area. In fact, Tucheng is also rich in forest resources, there are many hiking trails for residents .In addition, there are two tourism factories through the government 's guidance, 'Shu Shin Bou Wagashi Museum ' is one of them, and every holiday is always packed with crowds, that becomes a holiday tourism fashion!

2. Summary of Our Project

'Shu Shin Bou Wagashi Museum ' is located in Tucheng District of New Taipei City , which is first a mochi original equipment manufacturer , New Taipei City government conducts it successful to transform into a tourism factory. It began grandly on July 24, 2010. It is a good place for parents and children on holidays, both educational and tourism functions.It is also contributed to the economic benefits of Tucheng District.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

1. Computer Skills need to be improved: the students were not familiar to use computer software, such as Photoimpact , Dreamweaver, Teacher Hsu must train the students as soon as possible. 2.Coordination was important: Each student had different advantages, teachers were responsible to find out the potential of each student, and assigned different tasks. 3.To rehearse before interview: students were lake of experience about interviewing , we listed the questions previously, made the rehearsal many times to make sure the interview will be going on smoothly.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We have learned many things, like how to organize articles, how to accomplish a website... etc. The most important thing is teamwork, and students learn how to complete each task together. They enjoy the process of learning.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

1. Language: Writing, interviewing, and reportinging. 2. Social Studies: Learning how to research in the tourism industry of hometown, and understanding the importance of local industry. 3. Computer Science: Learning basic computer skills such as PhotoImpact, Photocap,Dreamweaver.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

1. Visiting Shu Shin Bou Wagashi Museum. We have visited Shu Shin Bou so that the process of establishing a local business can be made clear to us. We have also had a better understanding in the idea of making mochi as their major product. Furthermore, many of the interview skills have been learned throughout this trip to visit Shu Shin Bou. 2. Via Interview with Related Personnel. For this particular topic and its contents we have interviewed the Planning Development Manager Mr. Wei and Miss Wu, who is the Assistant to the General Manager. We have also asked the customers’ opinions for feedback through which we have grasped their ideas and thoughts. 3. Via the Assistance from the Parents of the Participating Members. The parents’ timely assistance is greatly appreciated so that this project could be completed successfully. 4. On Campus Publicities. Posters have been printed and posted, and vending booths have been set up for School Carnival. Via these publicities, the way to eat mochi and the naming of mochi in different regions of the world can be better appreciated. 5. Via the Experience of Sending Love and Sharing Mochi. Many parents have been invited to school for a show-and-tell demonstration of how to make mochi. Our students in the Gifted Students Lab have then learned the skills and made delicious mochi. Besides, our students wrapped the Mochi up beautifully as gifts and shared them with the students in the Special Education Lab.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

1. Getting experience of making mochi: We attend the DIY activity in Shu Shin Bou ,we made a delicious Brown Sugar Mochi and a Christmas Peach Mochi. It is a great experience for us ! 2. Promotion: In order to promote mochi culture,we set a booth in Carnival of the school. We designed two games about mochi, let the other students know more about mochi. 3. Interview and questionnaire: For going to interview Mr. Wei and asking guests to fill out the questionnaire , we felt very nervous, so we pre-drilled the situation in school .We overcame our shyness personality, completed the task successfully.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We would like to thank for many people, they helped us a lot to finish this research project. First, we would like to thank our teachers: Miss Lin and Miss Hsh. They taugh us how to do the research and edit web pages. For enriching the project, we went to visit the Shu Shin Bou Wagashi Museum . The Planning Development Manager, Mr. Wei ,offered great help. Finally, we would like to thank the owner of the Shu Shin Bou, Mr. Chen ,arranged the introduction of the production process.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Originally, when we did the questionnaire investigation, we felt nervous when asking the tourists in 'SHU SHIN BOU'. But, when they realized what we did, they were friendly to complete the questionnaire. Besides, we cherished each experience,through this project, we found our unlimited potential.
