Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

About 300,000 people from 15 ethnics ,including hui , han , man , meng , live on the Pingluo with an area of 2286.2 square kilometers , creating the marvellous frontier Yellow river culture and intense dessert ethnic flavour by integrating national cultural , Xixia culture ,nomadic culture , religious culture , He lanshan culture , Yellow river culture ,and so on . Continuos sand dunes and torrential yellow river reflet with each other , infusing into the color of sky and river , with blossoming light blue magic asters on the boundless prairie. We showed the magical and beautiful culture of this area from cultural values of local farmer Li Cuiyun . More importantly , we could show chinese farmets’ pursuit to a better life by recognizing cultural integration in reral historical development to inspire current teenagers to set up correct sense on life and value.

2. Summary of Our Project

We changed our subject accidentally . We noticed a rural woman on county’s TV channel who recorded her pursuit on life without any guidance. She painted more than 100 pictures for more than a half year at nights while continuing working at daylight . Although her works were not powerful and majestic as those by famous painters , we felt a kind of spitit and power in it . As fellow-townsman , compared with her , we felt something less on us though we all grew up with rice irrigated with Yellow river water and flow of blood rooted in Yellow river . She not only learnt painting by herself and did embroidary work and paper-cutting , as well as hair cutting and clothes making . When we walked into her small farm home ,we felt heavier at hearts seeing 10 oxen and 12 pigs . All in all , we learnt a lot from this project.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:less than 20

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:2-3

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dial-up modem

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:4-6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

The school computers are connected with internet by ISDN dial-up , with a speed of 2MB and the school local area network are connected with the router , which can satisfy the webpage scan for 5 to 8 computers at the same time . However , this is not real when we download or upload information . But we are satified with it as this is much more advanced than the past 56KB connection speed with modem especially in schools at rural areas.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

We had some experience as this was our second time to attend this contest . Although we got the silver prize last time , it also gave us more pressure this time It was mentioning that we felt different this time . Three new students , in 7th grade , had limited manipunation skills on software and limited knowledge to the computers , therefore , they needed to learn while designing our webpage , but it would harm our proceeding rate and quality . Another problem would be the limited time from interview to design , what was more , our interviewee Mrs. Li Cuiqin did not have spare time to receive our interview as a result of the busy agricultural work . We finally finished our work after two afternoons’ interviews under the efforts of Teacher Yang .

5. Our Project Sound Bite

A second time participation to this competition brought us more inspiration and lessons as one time experience was not enough . The paramount task was to fulfil our interview under our theme. The three new students were full of confidence when they knew they had chance to participate this webpage design competition . But the lost their driving force after seeing the interview outling and they regained their determination to overcome difficulties after training and learning and guidance from teachers . Such a different first time exerperience made us unforgettable . seeing the medal from first time , we knew we had to work harder and get better results this time . But we still attached more importance to the engagement proscess bacause we could satisfy ourselves with our all-hearted giving.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We focused on the rural woman Li Cuiqin in our interview and showed people the spirit and intense rural cultural sense of a common and simple rural weman with our knowledge of chinese , geography and history by displaying our coordinated team spirit , enabling people to know more about the living situation of western rural women . And we promoted our hometown and showed people the pursuits and ideals of rural women in the new age with our basic knowledge of information and technology . The goal of the existing rural women entrepreneurship project is to improve the laboring skills of rural women by projects aiding , thus increasing the family gains and achieving richness. Connected with the quality-oriented education , we made more students know the development fruits of rural cultural construction through investagation and interviews , making our due contribution to our future society . Our team members conducted mutual help ,mutual learning and bold question raising , fostering their sense of group hornor and sense of achievement , knowing the creed that no pain , no gain through formulating detailed interview outline . During this formidable task , we were inspired of the importance to build a harmoniuos society with our affection from the unselfish help of Li Cuiyun’s family . This was a lesson which benefited us a lot ,and we finally fulfilled our goal .

Our beautiful and precious hometown Pingluo which is located at the north of the Ninxia plain with a long history , fertile soil and abundant production , raise sons and daufhters of the our mother river , Yellow river which flows through the whole Ninxia. Since we recognized our hometown in a different perspective , we hoped that people around the world could know about our hometown from the charm of an comtemporary chinese weatern rural woman. We were touched by the arduous life experience of Mrs. Li when we interviewed her. We were infuenced by her deeds and words when she told us that the good national policy of loan with zero interests of entrepreneurship of rural woman that she gained with the help of town women union made her painting studio possible . We made people to think and underatand the preserved rural cultural background and their future direction through our interview. We saw the delicacy and beauty from the works of Mrs.Li , knew her process to start her studion and recognized that no pain , on gain as well as the creed that opportunities coexisted with the developmet through our observation and learning. With the progress of the interview , we had a broader and deeper understanding to Mrs, Li and were proud of her when we saw the cute and delicate works showing before us . We finished our work after we had overcome the difficulties and problems with our wisdom and had answered doubts with our actual deeds .
