Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Our community is very various. We are influenced by our geographic position for the city is located between two Russian capitals Moscow and St.Petersburg. The city is quite big with its population of nearly half a million. The city is a regional capital. The region itself is bigger than France. People who live in the city are of different nationalities, religions and backgrounds, but we manage to live happily together. We are proud of our home and want people from all around the world to learn about it and may be one day come to visit it.

2. Summary of Our Project

Tver is quite a big tourist centre, but not many foreigners come to visit it probably because it’s not very well known as a tourist attraction. We’ve also noticed a great lack of region description in English. That’s why we decided to make a video in English that will show the beauty of our place and will raise the interest in it internationally. Our main goal is to unite people around the world in learning about each other and different places. Every city, every town has an interesting history, interesting present, but what is mostly precious for us has people who live there. We think it’s extremely important to unite in learning about each other, to understand each other especially now that we can easily communicate using the internet. Our project also unites people who live in our region in realizing how beautiful the place they live in is. They turn to it from different perspective. They start appreciating it and digging into regional history, regional customs and traditions, its inheritance and art. People become proud of their homeland and want the entire world to know about their city.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:2-3

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:2-3

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

It's really difficult to say that we really had overcome problems. We faced some difficulties communicating within the group as every group does. Sometimes it was difficult to decide what to choose for the video. Technically it’s the first time we create a website. So we had to learn how to do it from the start. And we've defenetly improved our English.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

This project is a definite step forward for the group. It’s the first time the group has created a website in English. The students have created the video individually. It helped them to understand that the knowledge that they’ve developed so far is quite sufficient to participate in the project of the kind. They’ve also learnt to present their work to other people and their classmates. Of course the project also means a lot for our community for it has got the representation on the international level and opened an opportunity for the entire world to find out what Tver region is.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We are not a regular school. We are 'an after school activity' it matches our coursework and curriculum perfectly. We study foreign languages and learn to be regional ambassadors and leaders. We also study different cultures and religions. We've learnt to organize information, to create videos and make presentations in English, work in a group, distribute responsibilities.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We used video and photo cameras, internet and regional library. We worked in Microsoft Movie Maker and Photoshop.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We've addressed local tourist agencies and Regional Tourist Department in order to find out if there is a need in video about the city in English. They were surprised to see the teenagers to come with iniciative like that. So the idea was happily welcomed and supported.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Our project opens an opportunity for people all over the world to learn a lot about our city and also try to understand how contemporary teenagers see their hometown. It's important to be able to learn about each other in the language understandable for many. Webpage becomes popular. It's shared among schoolchildren. It's known to be used at the English lessons during topic studies 'My home city'

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Our big thanks to our school friends and parents.
