4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Comments: many people supported us in the interview. Aunt Wang in Maozhuang Village, warm and hospitable, patiently told us lots of valuable knowledge on embroidery; Uncle Tian told us the history of the art. Our gratitude should go to Mr. Yang in Longde Vocational High School for our interview and President Li Qiang in Zhangyi Middle School for the guidance and support. We are convinced that the competition and setbacks saw the growth of us and the knowledge gained

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We interviewed on the history and current situation on the embroidery in the rural areas, the importance of the art and the value, telling us the key role it is in the rural areas. As a cultural product, it pays for the disabled and the farmers, as well as the transmission of the art.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The web design competition is part of the school culture and as an advisor, I participated the competition again with enthusiasm and curiosity for web design. Though the three group members have little knowledge on web design, we corporate well and they actively work well with each other each time I assigned them work. Despite the irrationality in the very beginning, which impedes the activity of them, they value much about the teamwork and know more about the photograph, computer skills and communication capacity. Here I mean: everything is much easier than anticipated, if you put your heart and soul into it and persist on it, you will strengthen and show yourself with true feelings. Whatever the results should be, the failure can also make you pride.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Our member Zhang Lulu is the broadcaster of the school broadcast station, he took full use of it to ask the students to collect the materials after the deciding of the theme, which is a good compensation of the materials. President Li was very glad to know the students participate in the competition again and sponsored us a little. He also told the administrator to open the computer room all day for our students and it is really a big convenience. Mr. Wang is from Maozhuang Village, the best in the Zhangyi Town in regard to embroidery. He is ready to help whenever difficulties occurred with great patience. Our theme is praised by all the teachers in the school, good for the general skills in exploration, discovery, practice and exercises. During the process, many students admired our members with the digital cameras to shot, visit and dealing with the words and processing photos.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Our investigation and publicity made many people, especially the farmers know the value and importance of the embroidery. In one interview, a farmer told us: “The manual embroidery has been in extinct for quite a long time and in particular years ago. In stead, we have many machinery embroideries which are popular all over the city, which were not as good as the manual ones. Now the manual ones is in fashion again, we have many shops selling these stuffs. I also participated the training class and can do some by myself.” The popular history of the art is hard to describe, so we must protect the cultural heritage and bring it to a great height of development!

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Our team members are three students who were zhang lulu, zhang zuoqiang, duan yuping, participating in special fair competition, they played a very important role in collecting data, photographs, interviews, and text input on my Of great help!

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

At the first, my photos are always criticized by the teachers because I cannot use the digital camera well, which costs more than 10 thousand Yuan. However, with the encouragement and guidance of the teachers and my own efforts on the all-sided framing and adjusting the pixels, I can have the satisfied photos finally. I am overjoyed to hear the praise from the teachers! We have never heard of the Dreamweaver but with the guidance of the teachers we learned many skills and made all the pages by ourselves! To my surprise, the competition taught me about the photoshop and I feel good to do the pictures with it! The only regret is my shyness in every visits, that is my demerits! I an believed that, I can take on the lesson to be open to everyone the next time.
