1. Description of Our Community
The report we present centers on Yehliu, which is the extension of the mountain chain of Ta-Tuan Mountain to the Pacific Ocean, located in Northern Taiwan. The weathering, and wave erosion contribute to its magnificent landscape, including the best-known Queen’s head, Fairy’s shoe, and candle-shaped rock. Yehliu Geology park was pre-owned by Wanli town and has been taken over by the Taipei County government since 1978. Managed by crew of North Coast Natural Scenic Area.
2. Summary of Our Project
Yehliu, the long-narrow cape, stretches into Pacific Ocean about 3 km long and 200meters long. The narrowest part is approximately 50 meters. The rock layer of Yehliu was mainly composed of sandstone which formed 20 millions years ago, where the renowned mushroom rock is located. Besides, the noted candle-shaped rock and ginger rock were located in different rock layer respectively. The three different rock layer, with the influences caused by wave attack, rock weathering, earth movement and crustal movement, contribute to the formation of such a rare and stunning geological landscape wonder. With affluent marine ecology, there are various aspects of fishing village and natural wonder. Yehliu cape is rich in lime and mingled with round and irregular-shaped lime which has much stronger anti-erosion ability. With different erosion, the grotesque shape rocks become. With ample geological view, the most crisis Yehliu confronts- “The Queen is about to be decapitated!!”(the mushroom rock break down because of weathering and erosion) What is Government’s strategy to this issue and the vision to the plan of Environment Protection. We hope we can awaken everyone to see this issue and emphasize the important of Environment Protection.
3. Our Computer and Internet Access
A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%
B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6
C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection
D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6
E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):
The internet speed (optical fiber) in our school is quite fast. The computer labwe utilize is on the 8th and 9th floor in the newly -built building. There are 10 computer labs. We surf the internet by Cable Modem or ADSL at home. We discuss the project with classmate and teacher by Skype and MSN.
4. Problems We Had To Overcome
1.The problems we had to overcome: We had no idea from the beginning. We discussed many times, but still couldn’t make it out. Through the discussion with instructor in class and after school, we finally had the direction- the issue related to Environmental Protection. Since then, we began to search the information. 2.Because of affluent information on the internet (many of them are duplicated), we confronted the difficulty to sieve information out. Besides, the citation of references and material that cited no plagiarism made us not alter the material that much. We spent a lot of time keeping revise the index, chart, and material. We visited Yehliu GeoPark for interview in person. We didn’t know well about the Environmental Protection issue that made instructor turn out paper back. The crew kept discuss and question. Because of that, we got the answer we want and finished the interiew. 3.Insistent on creativity vs. combination and trust: We found that everyone insist his creativity which is great. With repeated discussion, we believed that we could integrate all the material to the best context. Because of the project, we realized that doing a project is a process that reaches the goal with team work.
5. Our Project Sound Bite
The environmental protection in Yehliu is the microphotograph of reservation in Taiwan, which is also part of the earth. Like what the famous astronaut, Armstrong said, “This is one small step for man, but one giant leap for mankind.”, every steps what we do in Taiwan and Yehliu for reservation meant great significance to our environment and earth. We hope we can attentively reserve and protect our environment.
6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
Through the process of the project, we had chances to know the wonder and natural environment of Yehliu further. It occurs to us “the Queen” when we talk about Yehliu. But, through the CyberFair , we knew more about Yehliu’s fascinating wonder and beauty through the project.
