Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

The bright pearl north to the great wall—Huinong Distinct, located in the northernmost of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, the east of it is the running yellow river, and the west of it is the towering Helan Mountain. It borders the Inner Mongol Wu Sea on the north, which covers three county and three town, six street offices, 50 neighborhood committees, 42 administrative villages. Huinong Distinct was approved by the State Department in February 2004, establishing the Shizuishan city administrative district to replace the former Huinong Village and Shizuishan Distinct.

2. Summary of Our Project

The goal of today’s quality education is to educate the students with humanities, organizing capacity, democratic quality, local and international awareness and also become lifelong learning healthy people. We choose the hometown people as research object is with the hope that through thematic information collecting and producing to train the students with abilities that can “carried away.” For example, the planning preparation, data collection, interviews, questionnaires, web pages production skills and so on. In the teaching scene, we found that students all have exploratory enthusiasm but lack adequate guidance. Through our proper guidance, we guide the students to explore topics. Therefore, in the researching process, except the show of research results, we hope through this research, students can be affected by our hometown, and then establish a correct view on life and the world, purify their heart and make them aspire good things as well as away from the ugly. Therefore, we consistently use opportunities to encourage students searching and processing data automatically to realize the impact from hometown and contribute to their hometown.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The details of the difficulties Although the students like interviewing, they should study at school, so there is a problem to arrange their time to interview. The safety of the students is the most important in the activity. However, the interviews are often arranged provisionally. Although the students are quite interested in the research, they are not enthusiastic for the sorting out of materials and typing. Due to the much time spent on the sorting out of materials, there is not enough time for web designing. The school attaches great importance to the studying of students, so the students do not have enough time to design web. How to solve The teachers interview and record and arrange time to discuss with the students. We try our best to make plans on the time schedule of interview in advance. The teachers explain to the students that the soring out of materials is the most important in the research. We ask the professionals for help. The teachers communicate with the leaders of the school and prevent students from taking part in some unnecessary activities.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

In this activity, what impressed me most is the noble spiritual world of people. In the rich of material culture, people are more desirable to the seeking of material. Master Liu can be happy for loneliness and tolerate poorness, from the status as an ordinary farmer to preserve the only intangible cultural heritage is quite commendable.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Through the activity, I have also learned how to arrange my time, or I will have difficulty how to spend time on studying and in the activity. I should work harder than others to do more. The more we sow, the more we get. I love my hometown Ningxia, as well as everything here. Each simple act stands for our love of the hometown. More importantly, as the students in the modern times, we should work hard now and make our own contributions to the development of Ningxia in the future.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Internet Environment There is an optical fibre of 10M in our school and 50 computers in the computer room that can used by students to surf online. And other offices of our school can also connect with Internet. The management center of Internet of our school provides us with a server to store some materials. Of all the ten students in our team, there are two students who have computers at home and can connect with the Internet

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

With the interviewing as the main tasks in our research, we not only contact them by telephone but also by E-mail. Through the interviews, we also know some people and let them have a better understanding of our research. Two teachers in our team teach information technology, both of whom have their own computers, so the students can search and sort out some materials with the help of these two teachers. Although most of the students in our team are in Grade Three in junior high school and are busy with their study, they still try their best to find time to take part in the activity and reap the benefit of it. The difficulties we have encountered and overcome are as follows: Although it is the second time for us to take part in the activity, they still lack experiences and our mind is not so broad, so the web we design is not so satisfactory. However, we also learn from the activity that as long as we have worked, there is no difficulty that we cannot overcome.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Huinong earthen pot is intangible culture heritage. These intangible culture heritages in fact can well reflect our Ning Xia’s local conditions and some fabrications. Moreover, these are gradually extinction and no longer hand down. Modern things cover these old things, but actually, they still have some effects on our life. I believe through this webpage competition, we must can spread these dieing out things down.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

The two guidance teachers of this special topic research are the two information technology teachers. We had computers for special use and we can free provide to students participated in this activity. Students can go to collect and process data at anytime and search data freely. But most of our participating students are going to graduate, they always snatch a little leisure from their busy life to participate, which is not easy, but they gained a lot.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

This is our second time to participate in the internet exposition; we lack experience and not wide in vision. In addition, we limited in ability and not familiar with the special topic researched, so the web pages made were not satisfied. But we understood a lesson that nothing in the world difficult for one who sets his mind to it.
