Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Tong Jiang Town was the capital of the Sichuan-Shaanxi revolutionary base. Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet Area was named as the “Second-largest Region of Soviet Republic of China”. 446 Generals such as Li Xiannian, Xu Xiangqian once mapped out a campaign strategy and fought fierce battle in blood. At that time, the total population of Tong Jiang Town was less than 23 million people, but there were 48 thousand people joined the Red Army, by the time the new China was founded there were only 4,000 survivors. Ten people from Tongjiang Town including Fu Chongbi, He Zhengwen and Chen Bin and so on other grew up into generals. Hu Yaobang, Jiang Zemin wrote the name “Exhibition Hall of Military History in Chuan-Shan Revolutionary Base Area ', 'Fourth Red Army Headquarters Site Memorial Hall”. The well-preserved Red Army ruins, relics, artifacts are all over the town, the large number, rich content and the precious heritage are rare in the country, which is deserved to be called 'Open-Air Revolutionary Museum.' “Fourth Red Army Headquarters Site Memorial Hall',” Red Army martyrs cemetery in Chuan-Shan Revolutionary Base Area ',” Red carved stone slogan in Rea Army Cliff' were listed as 123 classic red tourism scenic spots in the country.

2. Summary of Our Project

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the foundation of the PRC, in order to commemorate our great martyrs and carry forward the spirit of the Red Army; we have specially selected the topic. Through the brief introduction of the history of the Fourth Red Army, the introduction of the Red Army person, (Tongjiang generals, the old Red Army soldiers) and the display of red attractions in Tongjiang Town, we used our own way to memorize this piece of history.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:less than 20

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:2-3

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:2-3

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

Network problem: There were lots of users in our school and many of them used p2p download tools, as a result, the speed of the network was very slow. Latter, under the concern of Headmaster Zhu, the network became normal gradually. The problem of lack of computer can only be solved by our teachers’ providing of their own computer.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Blackout problem: The location of our school was in the mountain, once it was rainy and windy, there would be blackout. The information that the team members obtained cannot entry in the computer on time and we also couldn’t use the internet to search for information, which was relatively lag behind. In this case, in order to be able to complete our work, we had to work overtime when there was electricity and collected information when it’s blackout. The lack of computer knowledge: due to the in accessible environment, our team member relatively lack of computer knowledge, in this case, our instructor made training for the team members who participated in this website exhibition and instructed them to search on the internet.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

This year marks the 65th anniversary of the victory of the Red Army's long march, as the old revolutionary base areas, we chose the Red Army as our subject, combined with our human geography of Tongjiang as well as the footprints left by the Red Army to fully display the spirit of the Red Army in order to stimulate the patriotic enthusiasm of the students. At the same time, in the process of visiting and making our website, we encouraged and communicated with each other, which not only helped us enhance our friendship, but also enhanced the spirit of teamwork and learned to take pleasure in helping others. Through this activity, students born in 1990s had a deeper understanding of the Red Army and understood that our happy life today wasn’t easily obtained, we should study hard and love our motherland. It’d precisely for this reason, we have chosen the Red Army culture as our theme, aimed at introducing the Red Army culture in Tongjiang, natural scenery and rich specialty resources and used the Red Army relics as material to educate the young people to remember the history and carry forward the spirit of the Red Army.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

it’s relatively tight in terms of time, but I was happy to participate in the website competition and be a part of this community. I knew that now it’s the age of information and nothing can do without a computer, so I am very interested in the information technology course and learned a lot about computer knowledge in this course. Due to the limitations of the condition, the school only arranged one computer class a week. I felt that the time for this class was very short. Since the participation of this website competition, I also learned a lot of website making knowledge. Through the competition, I also learned a lot of knowledge outside the books, but also trained my will.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Computer, digital camera, scanner, U disc, mobile hard disc, radio

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Through the research of this special subject plan, the students learned more about the story of the Red Army in all aspects. After this activity, students learned more about the Red Army, the students were also willing to participate in such activities, and through this activity, students made some promotion activity on campus and drove more students to understand him and even like him. What’s more, they also carried forward and inherited the local culture. Let us learn more about the contribution made by Tongjiang people in the establishment of Chuan-Shan Soviet Area and let more people understand that part of eventful years and understand Tongjiang. Through this competition, we cultivated the spirit of solidarity and help and also cultivated our self-confidence and indomitable will.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

The competition was another beginning of our experience, when we first went out of the school to have an interview out of school we blushed, when we used the camera for the first time we shook our hands, when we first used the scanner, we were all in a fluster, we also lacked of courage and confidence in taking part in such a big competition. We didn’t have any experience in many fields so that we trained ourselves a lot and enhanced our belief for victory. This competition will give us a lifetime benefit. Through four months’ efforts, we collected materials, although our website was very rough, but we finally did the first one. Although it was 'the first bench,' what we appreciated was not the ultimate work. Results did not matter, it is important that we learned a lot outside the textbook in the whole process and understood lots of cultural knowledge of the Red Army and understood our happy life wasn’t obtain easily.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

the family member of the Red Army comrade Yan Dengyin
