Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Taipei, the capital of Taiwan contains the excellent location and traffic environment. Tianmu Creative Fair is located in Tianmu Parking Lot. It is the most popular place in Tianmu. The prosperous Tianmu marketplace has high level consumption and high quality of residence. Around it, there are Taipei American School and Japanese School. Besides, multiple foreign cultures and wide-open school culture makes Tianmu marketplace become the best place for fashion markets.

2. Summary of Our Project

Our project was related to the neighborhood. One day, we discovered the Fashion Market accidentally as hanging out in Tianmu, and luckily, we ran into the director-general of Tianmu Marketplace Development Association, Ms. Tang, who welcomed our interview very much. That’s why we chose this topic. In order to support and encourage Tianmu Creative Fair and local creators, we held campus propagandas. Who created Tianmu Creative Fair? The answer was RNDAY, five boys who live in Tianmu and Shipai. The Fashion Market has started from July, 2007, and has presented a variety of activity themes. Because they overcame different obstacles, we had chances to feel Taiwan original sprit with Tianmu Creative Fair. People couldn’t feel business, but could feel the insistence from the goals of creators. From RNDAY, we saw hardworking!

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:21-50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:2-3

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

Information systems have been set up on campus. Two classrooms equipped with computers are available to all teaching staff and students, who have access to an intranet (fibre optic speed of 100MB), internet (external speed of 10MB) and hard disk storage space. This makes searching for data, providing software lessons, and designing homepages very convenient.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

We planned to interview over ten people in our project. About the questions, we designed them according to the relationship between Tianmu Creative Fair and people we wanted to interview. However, the questions had a lot to improve because we couldn’t ask deeply with original questions. Besides, our teachers taught us to ask questions intelligently and keep asking more from their answers. We practiced by asking each other questions. From this process, we learned that being a journalist should be clever and having enough background knowledge.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Tianmu Creative Fair was not only a place for trading, but a place for sharing lives. From the project, we learned how to interview and how to run business. We also experienced it’s not easy to earn money, so we decided to donate what we earned to the Genesis Social Welfare Foundation. Helping makes happiness. Besides, we should treasure what we have now. We all like Tianmu Creative Fair very much because it is filled with pleasure and compliments. We had not expected any support before we started the project. In fact, people offered us information actively, praised our behaving and approved our project, so we gave, people responded us and we saw people helping each other. How warm it is!

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

A. Combine With Arts and Humanities. Some artists we knew at the Tianmu Creative Fair have broaden our horizon. They taught us to make coasters, clippers and holders. The activities which were combined with Arts and Humanities and we did our research by information integration, studying together and cooperation. B. Combine With Social Studies. We interviewed stores at the Tianmu Creative Fair. During the interview, we found that the age range of the creators was really wide, they were from 18,19 to more than 60 years old. Most of them were graduated from high schools and universities. Beside, in order to let people know more about Tianmu Creative Fair, Survey Methods were used in this project. What we did was related to Social Studies. What was more, to understand the result more, we also did statistical analysis. C. Combine With Information Technology Education We used different kind of information, the Internet, books and newspapers, to help the project learning. At the same time, students could get more broad information and more immediate information. After discussing and communicating for many times, we categorized our project content and uploaded what we felt and what we studied regularly. The most important thing was making our project result a homepage to share harvest and happiness with people.

A. Creating and making project: We made creative book clippers, coasters, ID holders and phone straps to sell at the market. All of us put a lot of energy and spent a lot of time, and fill out the evaluation to make works better. Moreover, we understood although creating is priceless, the need of the market should still be considered. B. Experience introducing and selling projects: we made presentation and leaflets to popularize Tianmu Creative Fair so that people could understand it better. Also, experiencing being a vender let us realize how difficult it was to be a vender. In addition to create crafts, venders should be good at selling and Covering different sides. This activity was really impressing. C. Interview and questionnaire: During the interview, we did questionnaire to the stores at the Tianmu Creative Fair because we wanted to know their expectation and helped them to speak out. D. Encouraging creators: We understood the difficulty of running the Tianmu Creative Fair by our project. From the interaction, we saw friendly and hard working. Through the campus propagandas, more and more people could support them, encourage them and applaud for those art creators.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We really appreciated teachers and parents for aid which improves our project a lot. Especially for the teachers, parents, art creators and staffs of Tianmu Creative Fair who are interviewed and offered some advice and information. So we could not only present the result in detail, but finish the project on time.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

After finishing the project, we discovered that although it’s difficult to earn money, but we felt pleased. Especially we realized we don’t feel tired if doing the job we like. We put lots of effort on every work even though it’s not delicate. Also, when the product was sold, the pleasure was beyond description. Most of the pictures on the homepages were drown carefully by using Paint. For us, we not only got familiar with the Tianmu Creative Fair, but also got more confident than before through this project. Although it’s hard and difficult to finish the project, every experience was precious. We reflected ourselves, learned lessons, improved ourselves and accumulated what we’ve learned. Now, we know and are surprised that there is no boundary in our ability by presenting the project.
