Our school located in Neijiang City, Sichuan Province, the finger calligraphy that introduced in the special subject is in Longchang County, Neijiang City. Longchang County was located between Chengdu City and Chongqing City, with Chongqing to the east, Luzhou to the south, Zigong to the west and Neijiang to the north. It covers an area of seven thousand nine hundred and two square kilometers, with a total population of seven hundred and sixty four thousand and has sixteen towns, two countries and one provincial economic and technological development zone. Longchang stone boards belong to major historic and cultural sites under state protection, in Mar, 2005, Longchang County was named “Hometown of Stone Boards in China”. Longchang County has colorful civil arts and deep and profound culture, civil craftsmen like Ma Xiaoping are in large number.

Finger calligraphy is a unique art in calligraphy. Using fingers as brushes needs to pay attention to “dipping ink” and “ using fingers”, finger calligraphy is much difficult than writing in pen and brush. At present, there are less than one thousand people who master finger calligraphy and very less people know finger calligraphy. Neijiang City, Sichuan Province is a fair place tends to produce outstanding people, Ma Xiaoping, who lived in Oil Avenue; Longchang County studied finger calligraphy for over twenty years and achieved astonishing results. The purpose that we seven got to know Ma Xiaoping and his finger calligraphy is to let more people know and learn finger calligraphy and let people love Chinese characters, love calligraphy and love our country.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:less than 20

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:2-3

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:4-6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

There are only twenty computers in the computer room in our school with poor function, among which only about ten can work normally. Every time we make websites and processed pictures, the computers always “sing a different tune” to us, as a result, the pictures that originally only take several minutes to process will take half an hour.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

There are only twenty computers in the computer room in our school with poor function, among which only about ten can work normally. Every time we make websites and processed pictures, the computers always “sing a different tune” to us, as a result, the pictures that originally only take several minutes to process will take half an hour.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

This is the second time we participate in the competition of international websites exposition, but we are still very excited. Last time, our website Confusion Temples in Middle Zi won silver prize, which gave us more energy and pressure.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We felt a lot after this competition. After two months’ effort, we collected all the material, though at first the website was quite rough, after several times of revise we finally finished it. When we looked the website we made ourselves, we are very gratified, but what we gratified was not the final work, what really made us felt glad was the whole process which we learnt a lot and understood lots of the process and current present of finger calligraphy, felt Ma Xiaoping’s spirit of pursing art of calligraphy and understood the strength of team work.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Computer, Digital camera, Scanner

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

After several times of discussion, we decided to choose music art as our topic. After choosing the topic, we distributed our assignments and collected materials, some classmates also collected some pictures and materials. All the classmates are very careful and made use of their spare time to collate the material that they collected and wrote their competition diaries. During the process of making websites, our teachers are responsible to design and made websites and we are responsible to composing. We learnt a lot and strength our understanding for Chinese calligraphy arts. Chinese calligraphy is long-standing and well-established, and finger calligraphy is a unique of calligraphy art but it’s less known by people. Therefore, through this activity, we let more people understand finger calligraphy and we will inherit it and spread it.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Through this activity, we not only improved our cultural quality and computer application level but also increased our understanding of Chinese calligraphy and our love for finger calligraphy. During this process, we understood that no matter what you do, you need to have a spirit of perseverance, teamwork and coordination; we also understood that we should shoulder responsibility for traditional culture.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Through Neijiang Daily, Longchang County Record searching on the internet, we knew that the finger calligrapher Ma Xiaoping was in Longchang County. After many setbacks, we finally met Teacher Ma Xiaoping who we admired for a long time. He was in his fifties but with full spirit and gave us a sense of cable and experienced. Through his conversation, we knew the history of finger calligraphy and knew how he stepped to the road of finger calligraphy.
