Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

In the parade of Taiwanese temple activity, the statues of divine generals can be seen almost everywhere. Lujhou has the largest number of statues of divine generals in Taiwan and it is also known as “the hometown of divine generals.” The cultural development of divine generals in Lujhou has been an important part to residents in Lujhou long time ago and it is also a cultural representative of the glory in Lujhou. Therefore, it is necessary for every resident in Lujhou to understand the beauty of divine generals. And it is hoped that through our efforts in research and propagation, more people can know about these messengers of justice – divine generals!

2. Summary of Our Project

The topic of this Cyberfair project is the sixteen statues of divine generals in the Divine General Festival in Lujhou Baohe Temple. We collected information regarding the sixteen statues of divine generals in Lujhou Baohe Temple through interviews, online data search, and personal participation in relevant temple activities. The appearance of each divine general is different and is also of its unique legend and meaning behind. Through understanding divine generals, not only the beauty of art such as beauty of costume, accessories, carving technique of divine generals can be appreciated but also the history and folk stories in China can be further understood. And the local folk culture of Lujhou can also be presented.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

1.Agreement getting We come from four different classes, it was quite hard to unify our opinions. However, it was so important a thing for us to complete the mission, so that we need to learn how to reach the best agreement. We discussed, found all the useful resource, asked teacher for help. By doing so, now we’ve learned the simplicity of respect and perseverance. 2.Endless learning At the beginning, we were unfamiliar with Divine Generals. When finding the information of Divine Generals, we encountered great difficulties. Teachers allowed us to visit Baohe Temple first. Through visiting the temple, joining all the ceremonies, taking a picture, recording, using the camera to shoot, we learned more day by day. In the long run, we could deliver the best introduction toward lots of people!

5. Our Project Sound Bite

This mission was so tiring that we couldn’t do it with an easy heart. We’ve learned a lot by achieving the mission. It was perseverance that helped us to complete the big task. Sincerely hope our website could be approved.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

1. The community in the classroom: This study about Baohe Temple Divine General we hope our students would have the knowledge about the traditional culture about Divine General, and also hope we can make the richness of “The community in the classroom” . In our lesson plan, there is a lesson for the 3rd and 4th grade students to have the knowledge about temples, therefore during our“Divine General Week”,we not only let our students see the Divine General ,tell them the stories about the Divine General; but also make many activities and lesson plan to fit every grades, and make them gain a lot of knowledge. 2. Social Studies: We broaden the depth of the courses in the social field in the different grades about the content of the traditional culture, through the activities, we can learn more together. 3. Art and Humanities: We led our students to explore the essence of Divine General, and use painting, drama and making video to show our project .We hope our students can gain a lot of knowledge about the traditional culture and inspire them to cherish the essence of community culture.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

1.The interaction of the community People in Baohe Temple are friendly. They not only answered our questions but helped us to have further understand about Divine Generals. They put their heart and soul on helping us uncover the mysterious veil of. Master Lee said, he felt very pleased that seeing so many young students get the hook on the traditional Divine Generals. 2.The interaction of our school and teacher The week of Divine Generals in our school, we perform a show about the Divine Generals. Fortunately, all the teachers and students loved our show and were stunned by the 16 Divine Generals of Baohe Temple. It was really very an interesting experience!

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

1.We got busier and busier We’ve need to go to do our duties every morning and afternoon since we joined the mission. Sometimes, teachers asked us to join the activities of Baohe Temple. It seemed like we didn’t have enough time. Although feeling tired, we still got a great fulfillment during the time! 2.We have the responsibility for the traditional culture. By doing the survey, we found out that temple was not merely the treasure of our country, but also very fascinating. We also discovered that as long as we are open-minded, go into the community, and we must find the best part of our hometown.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

1.Thanks for the Divine Generals of the Baohe Temple; they let us to participate in the temple fair parade, to visit an exhibition of the Divine Generals headquarter, and they visit the campus to participate in the activity of the Divine General week, so that it will enable us understanding shortly and understand the beauty of the Divine Generals, then obtain the precious pictures. 2.Thanks for the Director Mr. long Ben Lee of the management committee for the Baohe Temple accept the visits and support and cooperate with our activities, and to provide stalls for us to introduce the Divine Generals culture. 3.Thanks for Mr. Wang Zhongyuan accept our visit, and lead us to visit his studio, let us know that the process of carving for Divine Generals and to provide books for reference. 4.Thanks for all the teachers and students support the activity of “Divine Generals week', and provide valuable advice and assistance, so that our activities can be carried out smoothly. 5.Thanks for accepts the questionnaire survey, included Luchou Elementary School and the stores in the Baohe Temple neighborhood, vendors and passers. 6.Thanks for the sincere parents to participate in discussions, provide recommendations, as well as the contact were the target respondents.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

1.The beginning of time,we found that everybody are not will know Divine Generals, through research and extension, everybody understood of the Divine Generals were has a long history, still much works of many master craftsmen self-made, waiting for us to explore. Everybody from ours activity, discovered that this traditional culture of the Divine Generals, it is a treasure which everybody should treasure together! 2.Experience is the best teacher. During the study process, with in the community resident's interpersonal relationship interaction, and get along with students is not the same as between, therefore there is a lot of things can not to be able only to stand in own angle pondered, can avoid having the misunderstanding. 3.Thrive in the setback During the research process, we understand that the importance of the teamwork and communication. Everybody all learn to not become negative and frustrated, but will want to do a better job, whenever comes across the setback or be scolded by teacher. This time, we feel many warmness & friendliness of the people and learn much valuable experience from teachers and students.
