To compare with other sides, these Public Art works obvious own a large of connoisseur (even have more equipment) and large of resources to site it, even be able to provide the quality and quantity for objective study. Taipei Rapid Transit besides the traffic contact of downtown area, even include the contact of border area, the passenger’s viewpoint will be more vast, even could analyze “ Outline of Taipei”, this outline is mental, esthetic and spiritual.

2. Summary of Our Project

We can know the development of Public Art in Taiwan from the best place, and have the maximum additional merit that “City Rapid Transit System” planed the Rapid Transit Public Art. We lived in this city, enjoy the use and rely on the convenience of traffic system everyday, maybe we should stop our step, to search the usualness scenery of the station if brings the good vibration or inspire our philosophical thinking. It included the characteristic of “stage”, if they have imperceptible difference between the Rapid Transit Public Art and other Public Art? We will generalize and think it from the viewpoint for engineering, creative work and passenger...etc. Besides, we seek the City Identification and Art Impression, even more spread the plentiful connotation of cultural Taipei and lead to go with City Veining each other.

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

Our school provides ADSL for linking to internet with an upload speed of 2MB and download speed of 384 KB. We have completed a wireless internet this year and can receive the internet message in the campus everywhere. Our school has two Computer Classrooms, which has 36 personal computers available for students to use. there are two desktop computers in every classroom of the school .Every computer is provided with an exclusive line for connecting to internet and various web services are available for application through the server. The school’s servers include Web Server, Mail Server, DNS Server and Proxy Server that provide convenient online application environment. Every student has his or her own E-mail address and has the capability of web making.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Our obstacles 1.When we went to visit the site, some people couldn’t go. Which meant a great setback. 2.When we came together to make this site, some people couldn’t come, so we couldn’t work as planed. 3.This was the first time we made a website, so we had to learn how to do so. 4.When we made this site, it sort of influenced our classes.

How we overcame them :1.We took classes off and went together. 2.We gave up our recess time too and came together to make this site. 3.We asked our teachers how to make web sites, and worked hard to get used to using the software. We just had to work hard to catch up!

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We realized that it's not enough to appreciate those beautiful arts only by visiting every MRT stations and reading up correlative literature on this subject. To get a better understanding of our living area, we have to work on a project to discover the unknown history and culture, just like what we did this time. We found that we can get different feelings and knowledge if we open our minds to appreciate everything around us.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

From this project, we learned how to develop the web pages. We all had our own duty and everyone dedicates their best efforts during interviews . Our Teachers were all very kind to explain the terminology for us, therefore, we had better understanding on Public Art. With their help, this project became easier to us. Because our web pages would presented in our school web site, we all were very excited and tried to do our jobs best. We used some skills which our teacher taught us at computer lessons to make our web site after class. According to the principle of the curriculum of secondary school in Taiwan, 'students need to learn how to love the earth where you were born and lived.' Our project provides brand new and feasible learning processes. By conducting outdoor interviews and communication of the internet, we could have a better understanding on our community and love her.Through doing this project, we have improved our skills of writing, interviewing, discussing with each other, gathering information, and working cooperatively. Those skills might hardly learn from the traditional teaching and learning processes in schools. The most worthy of mention is that we've learned how to use different tools of technology. For example, we've learned how to use the MP3 recorder and digital camera to take down the information we got from our small group discussion. Everyone in our team shares everything and every different opinion. Besides, we also know the method to design a homepage and e-mail, and how to use the softwares to edit the website.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We set up three goals for this project. First, we did teamwork and some other creative learning strategies. For example, we gathered information, did interviews with the artist and the authorities, cooperated with the history studio, did group discussion, and designed a homepage. We would also like to introduce this learning strategy to the MRT passengers in our city. And then, with the notice of the website, we introduced International CyberFair to other people in our society, and take part in this interesting and meaningful activity. Third, we would like to introduce our beautiful sights(public Arts) in Taiwan to the people around the world. The country tour could never be just tasting snacks and playing, but it would become an intellectual journey. We are so moved by the sincere assistance of people in the authorities and the artist. They provided us with many precious and wonderful suggestions. Furthermore, we strongly recommend our schoolteachers and classmates to attend this activity. Most of them reveal their will to join this activity next year. In this case, we served not only the messenger of MRT public arts, but that of the International CyberFair.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

In Taiwan, the traditional teaching method makes student learn the lessons by rote. Students lack chances to learn from cooperating with each other to develop their own ways of learning and perceiving knowledge and information. This time, we had a chance to learn through cooperation and every team member knows how to use paraphernalia and digital camera to gather needed information. Now, we want to improve our English writing and speaking abilities. We hope to finish an oral and a written English tour for the foreign visitors to let the beauty of Taiwan be known by people around the world. Of course, our team members are willing to be the messengers of Taiwanese culture. In addition, when conducting an interview with Mr. Jiang in his studio, he mentioned the idea of operating art in a different way. It could not only animate the public art in Taiwan, but also develop people's bodies and minds. The authority appreciated our ideas and made a serious consideration of our plan.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We interviewed many people in the field of public art at MRT.Including Mrs.Huei-Mei Ju, the Section Manager and her group of Department of Rapid of Transit Systems TCG; Mr. Yang-Huei Jiang ,the creator of the Shiau Bi Tan station in MRT;Mrs. Ya-Ching Chou, the Section Manager of Council for Cultural Affairs. After they know our project, they all generously provided us the data we need to build this web.We also want to express our sincere appreciation for their warmth and kindness. It’s all because of their timely help that we can obtain such rich and valued information, which makes our website much more colorful and meaningful. Once more, we must say “thank you so much” to all of them.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Art’s always around us. We sometimes spend a lot of money and go to far-away places just to see a piece of art, yet forget about the art in our every-day lives. How sad!We would like to introduce our beautiful sights(public Arts) in Taiwan to the people around the world by the International CyberFair. We are so moved by the sincere assistance of people in the authorities and the artist. They provided us with many precious and wonderful suggestions. Our team members worked so well. We were active in asking questions, writing reports, and creating public art in school. We are usually nervous when we have to make a public report in the class. Surprisingly, we dared to interview the foreign tourists in the street. It was really amazing for us to do that.
