Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Dacai Town is located at southwestern region of Huangzhong County, Qinghai Province, with average altitude 2760m. The total population is about 27,000 , including mainly three ethnic groups: Hui, Han and Tibetan. Dacai is 48km away from the capital-Xining City, and 21km away from the county government. It’s surrounded by mountains in four sides. In the south, there is famous Buddhist mount-Mount Shengdinan. In the west, it is the Pandao Reservoir. Though the industrial development is limited in Dacai, the local culture and customs is wide spread. During festivals or vacation, Quyi performers are always invited to give a show, which is a good way to enrich people’s spiritual life.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

1?Though students like interviewing, their schedule was conflicted with interviewee’s time plan. As our interviewee-Mr. Dang Hai-yun lived in the county seat; our interview plan was under great pressure. Solution :Teacher went to interview alone and then retold it to students. 2?Students’ safety is the most important thing in our research. However, our interviews were often made temporarily; we had to apply to school leaders and then carried out our plan. Solution :Make the plan as early as possible. Ask the students to pay attention to safety. 3?Though we know a little about Quyi, we are not familiar with its terms. And thus, we can’t express our ideas clearly. Solution :Teachers tell students that clarifying material is an important aspect in doing research. 4?Many spending can’t be applied for reimbursement. Solution:Teacher told the students to pay the expedition by themselves in advance. Students still like to participate in the research. Town and Talent Technologies promised to give some financial aid after the completion of website. 5?Though students have great interest in doing research, they don’t like clarifying material and typing. Solution :Teachers tell students that clarifying material is an important aspect in doing research. 6?There is no teacher who is skilled in constructing web pages. Solution :We learn it by ourselves and studied other web sites. 7?Though we put great effort in doing research, our information can’t be reused in other courses. Solution :We plan to participate in more campus activities to promote the development of Quyi. 8?In the interview, we found that more material needed to collect and more work need to be done. Solution :Though we felt the pressure on our shoulder became heavier with the coming deadline, we were proud of our achievement. 9?The computer in campus is out of date and the speed of internet access is too slow. Solution :We upload the web pages in bars of the county and city.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The activity involves literature, history, geography, computer, art and culture. We have learned many things that are not in the text books.

We break out of the classroom, and learn from the real-life environment and experiences and from various experts in history and culture. Through this research project, we have learnt how to search for information, how to conduct an interview, how to organize information. These abilities will become our life-long assets.

In addition,Many people gave us a lot of support and help. Although due to the busy study, we had to do the work at noon break time and weekends and sometimes we were very tired, we have a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We consider it our responsibility to make the public understanding the 'Quyi', thus we should play the role of 'community ambassadors' and reveal this history to others.

We have tried to tell others what we know and introduced Quyi to school mates and villagers.

We realize our research result in the form of signboards, as well as a homepage hosted by the school website.
