Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

We undertook our project in a small community called Santasi a suburb in Kumasi, Ghana. In Santasi we came across a lot of things that really helped us in our project like music shops, nightclubs etc. where we gathered some information.

2. Summary of Our Project

Our project is simply about enlightening people especially the youth about music, the history of some types of music and the impacts music has on us.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:less than 20

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:none

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dial-up modem

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:1

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

At the on set of the project we did not encounter any problems but when we came on a little further we some how lost interest but through the advises of our co coordinator we were able to come this far. About the internet access we sometimes head a few glitches but all was well. Our computers sometimes got infected with viruses and we lost some information so from this experience we made sure that we always had backups of all our files.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Music is the organized movement of sounds through a continuum of time. This project is about how people understand music and how music connects different people with different cultures. Music was is universal and it is the basic media through which feelings, messages, and thoughts are expressed. The project will seek to update the younger generation on the changes that has occurred in music through the past years.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Our project addressed the topic of music and its impacts and this project is just what many people need to enlighten them on certain arts of culture such as music. We really must say that we learned a lot of things from this project and one is the spirit of team work. We also acquired the skill of typing and productive research. The internet being used for teaching has made learning more interesting and fun. Traditional methods of teaching and learning were good but did not interest people like how the internet has done. With the internet the spread of information has been made easier and faster and now people can pursue courses on the internet rather than being in the classroom.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

• A Pentium computer, digital camera and the internet. The above helped us in acquiring pictures; information and organizing the information used in completing this project. We had all tools at home and while in school computers and cameras were provided by our school. The internet was our most valuable tool because it was the major source of our information and also some pictures. The computer and the internet was the most helpful because all our research was done and organized with them.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We believe that our project will make a difference in the lives of the people in our community not only on enlightening them on music but also encourage them to undertake projects like this. We have also sent emails to many people in our community to checkout our project on the internet and we have also spoken to a lot of people about the project and we have establish a caudal relationship with them so to have their support in any project we may undertake in future. The project has boosted the morale of many people in our school, home and community at large and many people have found interest in entering into such an interesting venture to have a feel of group work and cooperation.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Our team needed some advice and every body in our community was willing to help and encourage us. We knew these people were our helpers because they were very interested in our project and our ideas and were willing to do anything to help us in anyway they could. So we sought to their advice and we can proudly say that they really helped us a lot. These people are countless; some were amateur songwriters, musicians, professional music producers and music critics. Some were long distant people so we had to travel long distances before getting to them but all was worth it because they were absolutely fantastic and they are the best at what they do. We cannot end this without the mention of Mr. Harry Tetteh who has helped tremendously for us to come this far. We would like to dedicate this project of ours to them and say thank you.
