Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Tzukuan Township, a rural region mixes with agriculture and fishery. In its south is Kaohsiung city, and north are Gangshan Township and Mituo Township. The Taiwan straits and Ciaotou Township are located in Tzukuan Township’s west and east. Its area close to 11595 square kilometers and the population is forty thousands. Rarely rural area has so many dwellers. Zihguan Township is the center of vegetable in south. Except the house area, 90% of it is farming. In 800 hectare farming, there are approx. 250 hectare grew vegetable. Half of residents make life by agriculture and half are fishery. Its specialty goods are abundant. Its annual mullet festival takes place from end of November to the beginning of December. The Zih farming vegetable is also well known. It is a peaceful with rich agriculture and fishery goods. We’ll introduce the detail of Tzukuan farming vegetable such as how it gather, wash, pack and so on. Let’s lead you into the green garden.

2. Summary of Our Project

Why Tzukuan Township can manufacture Tzukuan farming vegetable brand? Why Tzukuan farming vegetable can conquer the consumers? We’ll conduct the survey to reveal the reason Tzukuan farming vegetable being the symbol of GAP, the Good Agriculutral Practice. There are many foods in current market. Is everybody relieved with the foods they eat? How healthy is Tzukuan farming vegetable to win people’s trust? What do Tzukuan peasants and Agricultural Credit Cooperative do? We’re going to explain comprehensively.

Our teamwork is divided into many parts, so most of individual works are finished at home. To transfer data by FTP or email, every member’s house has set ADSL. The big loading work such as photos transfer and data backup are done in school. Our school has high-speed network that is up to 125 Mbps. There are 90 PCs and several printers, copy machines in school. With these facilities, our data research, homepage build and printing are getting easy.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

1. Technology Problem: Situation: Some of our members have good skill to manage homepage. The main challenges are merely the initial Flash and some peculiar functions. Solution: Instructed by Ms. Shu-Min Liu 2. Timetable Problem: Situation: 2-1. Members are from different classes, so it is impossible to do research simultaneously. 2-2. The working efficiency is low, as we do research in holiday. Solution: 2-1. Teamwork. Pass on the finished parts to next group to go on the research. 2-2.Before interview, we have to prepare the fully data. Also the rehearsal is essential. 3. Data Problem: Situation: It is difficult to classify, as the data we collect is plenty and complex. Solution: We divide the date into several parts, so our members can engage in. 4. Experience Problem: Situation: As it is our first time to attend such event, we don’t know what and how to do. Certainly, it is inefficient totally. Solution: The senior shares her experience to guide us plus teacher’s administration. 5. Progress Problem: Situation: There are many events since the beginning of semester, like anniversary celebrations of school, English drama etc.. Our pace cannot catch on the schedule. Solution: With teacher’s urge, members are spontaneous to devote more time. 6. Parents Problem: Situation: According to parents’ traditional view to education, this research is helpless to our lesson and waste time. Solution: We share our thoughts and show our efforts to parents, so they can accept our work gradually.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Because this is our first time to build homepage, we’re not familiar with technology. Therefore, we have to spend lots of time to tackle it. We had been experienced several serious arguments. When this research comes to the end, we become the peasants’ good friends as well. Thanks to the contact change with peasants; we obtain much knowledge regarding vegetable, for instance, how to identify if the vegetable is gnawed by worm? What different between reticulate crops planting and outdoor crops planting? And so on.

Certainly, we have the enjoyable visit. According to a peasant with more than 60 years experience in planting vegetables, the profuse yields rely on good climate; however, exceeded gather will result in price slump. Weather, Market fluctuation and merchant deprivation are the key reasons affect peasants’ income. Curiously, peasants always smile from ear to ear. Apart from planted, peasants have to delivery, wash and pack their crop. Moreover, the staff of Agricultural Credit Cooperative is the bridge that connects the peasants and government. They also hold the workshop frequently in order to educate peasants. The successful teamwork that Agricultural Credit Cooperative staff has created is what our team has learned. The first hand information we get from interview is more real than that we have from papers. This is an unforgettable experience to our team, the growing vegetable team. we’re able to enrich our phase in senior high school.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Through this competition, we improve our communication skill. We reconcile the team members’ dispute and accept different opinions. Besides, we cement our computer capability, such as photo draw, homepage build and Java script etc…

We used to be silent in the meeting. But things turn over. When we decide to join the web EXPO, we hold plenty meetings with real discussions. It doesn’t cause any trouble if everyone offers opinions clearly. On the contrary, it can dig out mistakes in the early stage. Before web EXPO, we didn’t know how to express our thoughts resulted in misunderstood. Now, we catch the point of communication. Objective thinking is the best method to make things perfect. What are majority yearn for? What content can attract most of people? The most important is that we are not daunting to face the dilemma.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Although we can get some information from the Internet and the books, it isn’t enough. So it is necessary to interview face to face. We first confirm the time on phone, and then we prepare to go there. When we arrive there, we interview two parts of them: farmers and farmers' cooperative in Tzukuan Township.

We interview with the elder employees and the organizer of the department of credence.

They provide us much information about administrative ways and the history in Tzukuan Township. We also contact with the farmers frequently. For example, they tell us something about the steps to plant and their daily lives.

They always give us some vegetables and an encouraging word every time. So we hope to let everyone know the process from how to seed, crop, exam to sale, and the farmer’s hard work through this monographic website. It can tell everyone how special the Tzukuan Township it is. And let everyone know why it is well known.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

The theme of the fair of network circle that we make is ' agricultural vegetables of Chinese catalpa ', this is totally the vegetables that a peasant of officer's township of Chinese catalpa cultivated meticulously, modern society, under the leadership of internet network one, the spread of information can be regarded as borderless, with such a chance, we can popularize this brand out for them, let more people know very well, and a lot of thing belong to chain reaction, can is it go out to popularize, namely hopeful to sell better, thus, peasants know confidence to heighten, more diligent planting, if the income can be improved, or can attract more people, even the younger generation's young man would like to invest agriculture. Officer's township of Chinese catalpa is a standard ' land of plenty ', not only can attract and want to understand the person of ' agricultural vegetables of Chinese catalpa ' but also can attract everybody to go to the location in fishing port of small house of Ke young animal of south district of home town, taste and catch the seafood boiled now.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

During the process of making the network richly, want thank you one serve Liu Zhenhua Mr. for more than ten years he offer a large number of materials to us at first in peasant association most, and then come to help us each time to get the interviews of the goods district and vegetables garden of collecting, even regard his experience as us to explain, however, impel us to interview smoothly each time with his strength. In the course of interviewing, collect staff member of the goods district pieces of warm-heartedness, even explain their specialty for us tirelessly; And farmer take us to vegetable garden, operate farm implements for us in person, give vegetables that we plant in person also finally -, a most fresh one that adopt now. Thank you very much indeed, no matter Mr. Liu, either staff members, or the farmer, let us experience the simple and most honest enthusiasm, bear hardships and work hard with peasants peculiarly. Finally, will thank it each time when we will meet the bottleneck, most depressed, cheer the teacher inflating on for us by us, and see through the classmates of the difficulty hand in hand together, everybody is arduous.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Although we think that it is efficient to teach on Internet, everything has two sides.

Learning on Internet supplies a fast channel for us to look for information and connect with each other. But the information from the Internet sometimes is over judgmental and lacks correctness and objectivity. Classical instructional methods sometimes make students moving, but the screen can’t translate it.
