Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

We are living in a place which is full of energy, the story we are telling also just happen in this varied jungle city. with the power of globalization, Taipei city has become an international big city. However, there are so many touching and surprising stories that is existing in this place, and continuously arising. Population in this 272-kilometer square big Taipei city has increased up to 2620,000. Taipei is the most progressive city in Taiwan.

2. Summary of Our Project

Meeting Shiao-Tin,we met the first person who won the presidential award in Yu-Da? The first impression was ordinary, she’s just like the girl in the next door, so tender, but there’s a determination and power come out through her eyes which is so different. It did not make her weak to having injection of DFO everyday, “You can see the sunshine everyday.” She said. To her, that’s the most precious thing to her. We did not know much about her illness, and how much it affect her, but we saw the wonderfulness of life in her. We were curious, therefore we gathered teachers and students starting discussing about the topic. People get illness and also depression. But she seems gladly endure those hardships. We work hard but we keep complaining, in her, we realized the impact of facing life, we see hopes as we see her, that’s our strike, and also let more people know about this disease, as we can try harder to prevent this kind of rare disease from happening by sifting from genes.

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:2-3

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

We use optical fiber internet in our school computer classroom. It’s also optical fiber system which used to store the webs and back-up data. We have 100Mb capacity for storage.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

1. Photo shooting Shiao-Tin has about 30 collections of her won works, she placed them in a box, some handcrafts are made by Shiao-Tin with so much work, some are the samples for teaching children, and also a lot of certificate of award, but we found that some photo shoots she offered are a little bit blurry, so we eventually have to get Shiao-Tin’s permission so that we can borrow some of her work and do some reshots. 2. Technique As the lack of computer techniques, we felt like even though we have the ambition, but somehow we can’t achieve, which we were not able to make special effect on computer. So Ms. Wu taught us some ideas of techniques, and practice makes perfects. That’s why we do it step by step from the basis, and we feel more comfort using those techniques. 3. Communication After our teacher decided the main topic, everybody came up with different opinions, each people thought that would be a waste if one’s own opinion not been taken, and the situation became everybody holds their insistence. At this moment, teachers need to communicate with the captains for each groups, we discuss about the good and bad, and our result will always be the best for our project and team. 4. Time cooperation Due to the heavy school work, and we need to finish our task in certain time. To us, it’s a heavy pressure, therefore we can only do it after school, and try to finish it on time at school computer room. I think that’s a challenge, and also because we actually did our best, so we have the result today.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

There are so many blessings behind each depression, we complain about out work, affection, interpersonal relationship, and the struggle of family, but we are so touching by how did Shiao-Tin and her family face the challenge and struggling with life, inspired us that we should always remind ourselves whenever we face to the frustration and depression, we still have brain and a pair if hand to explore unpredictable possibilities of life, to expect ourselves to follow Shiao-Tin’s unyielding determination, face oneself bravely, and turn the worst to the better one. The Clobal Cyberfair let us to know better and deeper about Internet world. In fact, there were a few people in our group had no idea about computer at all in the beginning, gradually, trough discussions and participation, they learned some techniques as well. We didn’t get defeated by those challenges which come with the report tasks, our potential actually got inspired by the tight plans. We worked so hard, we turn in this result, and also made us grow a lot in every aspects, we hold together until the last minute, we believe this achievement will show its brightness in certain time.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The Clobal Cyberfair let us to know better and deeper about Internet world. In fact, there were a few people in our group had no idea about computer at all in the beginning, gradually, trough discussions and participation, they learned some techniques as well. And yes, we strongly think using Internet system are not only able to get more infornations and extrahelp, but also make our contact much more efficient.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

1. Hard wears: computers, digital cameras, digital recording pen, printers, and scanners. 2. Computer softwears: Dreamweaver webs editor, Flash, Photoshop image editor. Microsoft Word, Internet Explorer, ACDSee, CuteFtp (for uploading data) 3. Internet work : yahoo messenger, emails, massage board, FTP Server, ADSL wireless, network hard disc.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Through interviewing in person, we wished to have a pleased conversation and interaction with Shiao-Tin,so that we can make an appropriate website for Shiao-Tin, trough visiting, making phone calls, contacting with Shiao-Tin and others in person. We believe there will be more and more people can see Shiao-Tin’s story, as admiring her braveness, also learning how to fight with depression like Shiao-Tin.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

While we are working on this project, we kept thinking about: If it’s me that who has this disease, will I be so optimistic and strong like Shiao-Tin?. We found the answers for these kind of questions by visiting Shiao-Tin’s everyday work and rest. Shiao-Tin never give herself up, never defeated by the illness, We realized we should always cherish our precious life. even though she has so many inconveniences, but she choose to live like an normal one. She can do what others can. We ought to take her spirit as our roll model.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

As we got the news about there's presidentail award winner in our school, so we started off asking imformation at the consulting appartment in our school, and Ms. Meng introduced Shiao-Tin to us. And we got a lot of help from Shiao-Tin's teacher Ms. Zhung, and also inetrview her friends. they really offerd a lot of useful assistance from people in school and her parents.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

1. though participating this Cyberfair project, we realized we can never submit to illness, we should be strong as it challenge us. In Shiao-Tin,” I might not be the smartest one, but I would definitely be the one who work the hardest.” This is what she told us, and what we should follow. 2. we found that everyone has their own originality and determination. Through discussing together, so that we can make the most beautiful project. This is a team after all, unity and responsibility are the most important spirit of all. 3. “ Are disabilities disadvantaged minority?” In this project, we overthrow this idea. We usually think specific disabilities are disadvantaged minority, who need special assistance, but in Shiao-Tin, she shows her outstanding characteristics, and become the prizewinner of Presidential Award. 4. We are ordinary and health men, but we are so grateful to our beautiful life. this time, we get to know those disabilities people, and their heart and mind is nothing different from us, and so beautiful and adorable inside of their heart.
