Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Taiwan is an island country in the East Asia. It's total land area is only about 3,6000 square kilometers; it is shaped like a tobacco leaf that is narrow at both ends. It lies off the southeastern coast of mainland Asia, across the Taiwan Straits from Mainland China. The population density of Taiwan stood at 639 persons per square kilometer. The capital of Taiwan is Taipei City. Our school is located on the Sinjhuang City one of the satellite cities of the Great Taipei. As a center of the 29 towns of Taipei County, its future prosperity is in sight

2. Summary of Our Project

We are very happy to participate in the Internet competition. We want to say our project is just like impossible mission. Because our members are from two different classes. It's very difficult for us to communicate each other. However we use the internet tools like Email, ICQ, MSN, to conqure and finish the project. We try our best to look for some information about 'Fever dog! HuiKuang Guide Dog Centre'. After discussing with our teachers, we search information in the Internet and find some data about the Guide Dog and HuiKuang Dog Centre. We also learn many things about the Guide Dog including the history, feature and training. Then our teacher made a appointment with Mr. Ming-Chi Kou is the first man to use the Guide Dog in Taiwan. We prepare some questions and have a wonderful interview with Mr. Kou. We also visit the HuiKuang Guide Dog Centre and see the Mr. Kou's Guide dogs(Anna) and the others. After interviewing, we coopreate to arrange the data and design our website. Although we encounter numerous obstacles, our teachers try their best to help us to slove the problem. We do learn many things about the Guide Dog and sincerely hope the puppy guide dog program in taiwan will be successful. We are very happy to share our project.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:4-6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

We used T3 for connecting internet with fixed IP at school and ADSL at home. Our school have two computer classrooms with 80 PC. We created websites and searching data from internet after our lunch. It's the only time the computer classroom free from classes and members could discuss the project.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

There are four points could describe our problem we have met. Time: we didn't have enough time to fully display our data in website. Because our members must do their homework in junior high school. So we use the short time to discuss the project and swap our though after lunch time. Then we use the Email, ICQ or MSN to transfer the data when we at home. The time is always no enough. Data: At first, We had no idea about how to interview with Mr. Kou. Later, We found he wrote a book named 'The First Guide-Dog In Taiwan'. Our clues all read that book and prepare many question to ask him. We also learn many things about the Guide Dog. Cooperation: Our members are from two different classes. At first, We don't know each other. We discuss a long time about how to cooperate together. Teacher also help us how to arrange our jobs and plan. After doing the project, We all know the importance of cooperation. We believe it will be successful. Technique: We design website first time. So We do our best to learn the software and use it smartly. Our teacher also induct us and get us some idea. We could modify it better.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

The hard process in the Cyberfair Website contest to introduce the blinds in Taiwan is not worth mentioning while comparing with the sufferings for blinds, especially the posteriority of the blind. We learn much from their vitality.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

This project let us learn the knowledge beside of the textbook and we also understand the closed-relations between the blind and guide dog. We hope these knowledge could put in the curriculums of junior high and elmentary school. To let everyone know the guide dog and help them. Besides, We learn the method of interviewing this time. We also hope our website could let more people know about the guide dog and blinds.
