Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Nangang is in the eastern area of Taipei City. Beautiful mountains, delicious tea, and wonderful scenery portrait this place. From Baojung Tea, tires, Nangang Parkā€”the second largest park in Taipei, to Academia Sinica- the highest research center in Taiwan, they are all what Nangang people are proud of. In this website about Nangang, we have detailed introductions on education, humanity, history, religious belief, traffic, and industries--everything you would like to know about.

2. Summary of Our Project

Nangang is one of the new areas which possess the potential to develop. As Nangang Software Park is stepping into the developing period, Nangang, with the progress of the MRT, the Nangang Software Park and the Academia Sinica, will become the new modern developing center of Taipei City.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

5. Our Project Sound Bite

the pictures in the homepages are taken at site and the use of some picture files have been agreed by the parties concerned. In regard to information, we have made reference to the book written by teacher Kuo of our NanGang High School : 'Good mountain, good river and good scenery'

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

One of our school's curriculum is to learm more knowledge from our homeland, and to develop a sense of place. Therefore, this project is perfectly fit into our course guidelines. We plan to design a teaching activity or a course based on this content next semester.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

All of the tools, such as DC, DV, scanners, and computers are provived from our school. They helped a lot especially when we took field trip aound NanGang. Inspite of its time-economic, it makes our presentation more vivid and artistic.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Our students acted as ambassadors when taking field trip. It's the visiting in person that we usually used. When mentioned that we wanted to present about NanGang to the world, they becomed very enethusiatic. They even treated us for free! That was the very impressive event for us!

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

In this case study, the importance is placed in sightseeing resource and actually visits were conducted at various sites. Some of them were already demolished and therefore we did not have the chance to see them. However, this made us think about the importance of protection of places of historical interest so that the history here will not be wiped out.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

After we had collectively arranged the questions to be discussed, we visited these places to inquire with the local elders.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

During the first interview, as the information was not collected completely, the result was when we went up to the mountain to conduct the interview we could not find the spot. Therefore, we were more cautious during our second visit and we made detail preparation in advance. We only went there to conduct interview after making sure that everything was all right. This interview gave us a lot of gains. At normal times, our activities were conducted at school or some famous commercial circle. Even when we went out to play we only went to famous scenic spots. However, with this interview, we discovered that actually the place that is so near us is so beautiful and is a place with historical and cultural background and we can deeply understand the beauty and the depth of local culture.
