Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

The Guan-Shan Village , Nang-Hua Country on Tainan County is named after the aboriginal “WestAli-Guan” and then it is officially called “ Guan-Shan Village ”. It initially belonged to the domain of Fong-Shang County with the altitude from 250m to 900m, typically a hillside slope area with mountains and streams surrounded. There are 3 precious treasures including beautiful mountains, streams and excellent ecology conservation. Within the ancient Taiwan County Documentary Articles, it said this is a place of clouds and mountainous areas. From the documentary context, we can readily recognize its originality and crudeness with rare human activity then. Thanks to this situation, it abounds in animals, plants and insects. People live by bamboo and mango as their daily colorful traits in culture.

2. Summary of Our Project

In West Ali-Guan Village, it abounds in animals and insects. We marvel that there are large amounts and kinds of vespas in the Guan-Shan Village. Some people live here who take advantage of vespas and hives, then gain their main earning. Vespa basalis is the angriest vespas, easy to be found in the mountains of Guan-Shan. Because climbers are afraid of vespa basalis, we crave to investigate vespa basalis by cooperating with adepts at vespa basalis living Guan-Shan Village. How do they build the perfectly six angle hive? How is vespa basalis’ development in every age? How do we discriminate it’s sex and body? How do we use vespas and hives? How is the PH of vespa basalis’ venom? These issues interest us strongly. We hope you scan the internet which described vespa basalis’ lifestyle and relationship between community industry and vespa basalis in order to know “assassin” in the village more.

In our school, there are 17 (including 6 PC in each class) computers, plus with servers and administrative PC, totally 28 PC. We create a school intranet to link to the Internet Center of Tainan County by ADSL. This connection will be convenient for students for their own web page preparation after school together with the information gathering.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

(1). Technical Problems We Had To Overcome This is our first to take this Vespa Basalis Theme as our research project with the seemingly unprecedented pride for this relevant preparation we experienced. Because it connects with community’s industry, is closely that people who live here get their own main earning. We try to combine this project theme with community’s industry, however find some technical problem which we hardly solve. These problems are how to catch vespa basalis or its hive, how we can get vespa basalis’s venom. Thank for community’ support, we solve some problems. (2). The Application of Technology & Information Media After experiencing with whatever and whoever we have encountered, by using technology novelty – digital record stick, digital cameras, DV and PC -, we note down whatever we think it to be worthy deep in our memory. We come to find the fact that technology always originates from the humane true demand in nature. But, sometimes, the endeavoring people will fail because of deficient experience with the substantial understanding that it actually exists in the gap between imagination and reality. Oftentimes, we cannot use the digital devices very proficiently and thus we are forced to find a good balance point for ourselves. What a bitter ordeal it is! We still keep our efforts to confront with any possible challenge, harsh yet worthy!

(3). Time Table Time is never waiting for man and we are limited to a certain period of time with all the preparation well completed most efficiently. We sincerely hope to show the viewers with detailed information about our hometown and it is really a huge challenge for us. Many thanks to the kind help from our teachers and parents, we finally complete this task with all possible favors from people surrounding us.

(4). Nobody Makes An Honorable Task Our school is quite a small school located deep in the mountainous area with the substantial difficulty to reach any resources and information. Thus, when we hear about the participation of Global Website Fair, we are all excited about this news and it is the very honor for our school, Rei-Fong Elementary School, totally 34 students. However, it is still a challenge for us to overcome and each our participants endeavor so much for this competition. I earnestly hope to link our community to the global trend seamlessly through this fabulous opportunity.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

From this theme research project, we share our life experience with each other and we also experience the true beauty with much more knowledge about the culture surrounding us, perceiving the painstaking stamina of our ancestors. We are searching for their humane movement. This is the only one elementary school within this region and there are numerous interactive involvements among people. We will create a database of web pages with all information gathered to promote our local features and culture well known to the whole world.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

“School spokespersons Training” makes every student have ability to be. What a lovely small elementary school it is! The people’s amazed laugh roars into the sky form the coaches with the irresistible attraction for everyone to find out its mystery. The passionate children are crowding to us and I think that it is my obligation to take their warm and frank explanation for their own ecology details. They just start the marvelous guideline details including insects, streams, produces and plants. It occurs to me that I never agree with the idea that this island exists in the gap between municipal and rural regions. Before our departure to somewhere else, they still remind us about their school homepage for more details by ourselves. The web pages are documented with the ample information and records. Ya! What a wonderful travel I have experienced! (written by a visitor)

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Through this theme research project, it makes me insightfully know about their local features and culture. This is the only one school there as the culture center of community. Only through the bridging cooperation between and community and school, we just can team up for upcoming development and promotion in culture by exalting the self recognition and community companionship sense of our students. The establishment of school website can make people know much more about their own humane and economical cultures and customs with the positive help for sales promotion and product package. Furthermore, through the beauty of Guan-Shan Village , we can improve the linkage and depth between economical aspects and culture with the most convenient accesses for global people to browse our website. They can thoroughly understand the very pride of Guan-Shan Village.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

All the contexts within this website is about the research details of vespa basalis on Guan-Shan village. Thus, after the research theme is determined and directed, every one spares no effort to collect the information of local vespa basalis. From the very beginning, we find there are numerous websites detailed with marvelous description about vespa basalis with professional analysis and images to amaze us dazzlingly. In order to make our website information colorful and ample, we deliberately inquire the acceptance from the original authors for our article quotation. Luckily, they generously access us to quote their articles and images with the clearly authors and data sources marked on our webpage. We hereby thank for their kindness very much. Furthermore, the school teachers also provide us with numerous reference books. Together with our own personal interview materials, we also integrate all these contexts and reviews to constitute this website. 5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

“Divine skill displayed in a work of art”, we sing praise for holy God who create all beings. We find vespa basalis’s hive is built of many six-side holes, and try to probe why the structure is formed. Nevertheless, we know is related to vespa basalis’ tentacle. After investigating, there are many wonderful things. For an example, from understanding the process of vespa basalis making its hive, we see features of vespa basalis. When we comprehend, are surprised.

2.Inspiring Education This is our first time to deeply get involved into the theme research. From the very beginning, we thought the time will be enough. Impeded by the inexperienced projection and unexpected events, we are forced to delay. There runs a saying that projection never catch up with the swift. People always grow from their own experiences. Through group meetings, communications and reviews, everything seems to get from good to better. This experience also realize the importance of time schedule and personnel relation.

3. Amazement Everywhere, Vespa Basalis All Around After a series of interview activities, we suddenly find the particle of sand constitutes a wonderful world; a flower makes the fabulous heaven. When we retrospect the most beautiful thins in our life, we usually ignore its significance because it always accompany with us.
