Most equipment mentioned above was provided by our school. We feel thankful that Mr. Ho-Han Lin, who is in charge of managing all high-tech equipment at school, such as PCs, supported our project by lending us any equipment we needed generously.
Besides, we also appreciate that Dr. Chu as well as Far Eastern Memorial Hospital offered us many firsthand data, which were such a great help to enrich our project.
2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.
To start with, we got together and discussed about who we could try to reach and give an interview for more information related to our project. Of course, Dr. Shu-Hsun Chu was the main character, who we wanted to interview the most. After deciding our intended interviewees, we used telephones and emails to contact with them and arrange the places and time for the interviews based on their schedules. Meanwhile, we also designed many questions as well as practiced our interview skills. Because of these preparations, many local people we interviewed were deeply impressed by our performance and the questions we asked. They told us that it was unbelievable to see children like us who cared about our society so much. Their remarks and praises were great encouragement and inspiration to us, and that drove us to work on our project harder.
At first, we had thought that it would be hard for us to influence Panchiao area with our actions and project. However, due to our visit to Dr. Chu, he came out with some new ideas of holding a life experience camp. He thought that it would be a good try to enlarge the camp to six-hundred people in cooperation with a junior high school. We were very happy to hear this idea because it could involve more people to have different life experiences.
3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?
1. We learned to respect our life, to face the forthcoming challenges and to take active, responsible attitude toward things.
2. According to the recent estimation, heart disease was the most critical disease in Taipei City and County because of its high death rate. On the basis of it, we offered a channel for the residents in our community to know what is so-called heart disease, how to stay healthy away from it, and how to search for help when it occurs by constructing a website, our CyberFair project.
3. We built the new relationship with our community. During the process of working on the project, we visited and interviewed many people inclusive of Dr. Chu and local residents. Through this contact, we knew much of them as well as collected lots of necessary information for our project, and they were also impressed by our enthusiasm and active attitude, and knew more about our school. We believed this was a great stride for the connection between our school and community.
4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?
First of all, we are full of gratitude toward those who accepted our interviews, gave us advice and generously provided us with lots of relevant data and pictures. Without their help, our project wouldn't have processed smoothly and in turn been completed successfully.
In addition, we would like to thank our teachers, Mr. Wan-Kao Ke, Mr. Juan-Hsien Sung and Ms. Wan-Chi Chang, for holding the team meetings weekly for us, assisted us to analyze and organize our written drafts and project data, gave us constructive suggestions for naming the title and subtitles of our project, taught us how to make use of various software to create an attractive webpage, and helped us to translate our project into English. They, though having a busy schedule, spent time with us and led us to experience each step of project planning and practicing, and to acquire many skills, such as software operation and language translation, which are all helpful and useful to our study and life career. We appreciated what they have done for us sincerely.
Above all, we want to present our thankfulness to our parents. They not only assisted us to contact with our intended interviewees, but also supported us spiritually with their love, when we ran into difficulties or felt frustrated. For their constant consideration and encouragement, we didn't fear the forthcoming challenges, and could persistently and bravely stand up from the place where we tumbled. Thank them all.
5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)
1. The main focus of our project is Dr. Shu-Hsun Chu, who is the most outstanding cardiologist in Taiwan. Therefore, we had lots of chances to immerge ourselves into various data related to heart. Thanks to these opportunities, our concept of heart was broadened a great deal from the concrete definition and medical science about flesh heart to the abstract meaning and psychology about mental heart.
2. We found out that the effective way to protect our heart is to make our body remain healthy and our feelings joyful. If we feel something wrong with our hearts, we shouldn't hesitate to see a cardiologist for he/she will help find out the problem and solve it.
3. This project brought us to experience lots of things, including teamwork, social skills, interview techniques, computer software, and in particular the spirit of 'never give up.' We know that it is impossible for us to avoid all the upcoming challenges in the future, and hiding at the corner is definitely not a way to success. With this in mind, we have to hold this spirit to face all kinds of challenges bravely, so that we won't be regretful about our life.
